April 7, 2002 Mini Rally

Designed as a Training Rally to spark interest in Classic TSD; this 50 minute 1 Stage Rally went from the Hart House Restaurant in Burnaby to SFU.
Although no timing checkpoints were used, the Rally did prove to have its traps.  4 in fact - 3 off course, 1 on course.  The original route had planned for an extra trap but had to be changed at the last minute when it was noted someone stole a street sign.
Trap 1(off course) - ONTO Trap
Trap 2(off course) - OPPORTUNITY Trap
Trap 3(off course) - OCCURRENCE/BECOMES Trap ***OMITTED***
Trap 4(off course) - ACUTE TURN Trap
Trap 5(on course) - PHYSIOLOGICAL Trap (Unnerve the Navigator into thinking they messed up.)
The weather couldn't have been nicer. The previous day had major rain and many would be teams didn't show because Sunday was to be poor as well.  However, sunshine prevailed and those who came had a wonderful drive in the sun.  Not only were the Rally Cars present but interested others showed up in some nice wheels to show off in the parking lot prior to the event.

Some of the cars that showed for Brunch prior to the event.

This brute didn't compete but came along for the drive.

Parked prior to the rally.

Car 1 at the starting standoff.

One of the volunteers for this event, Kelly, can be seen waving in the other 5 cars for release from the standoff.

Car 2 at the starting standoff.

Car 3 at the starting standoff.

Car 4 at the starting standoff.

Even 40 grit sandpaper couldn't wipe the grin of this driver's face when he is behind the wheel of this machine.

Car 5 at the starting standoff.

This Bentley was so quiet that one could not hear the engine as it idled at the standoff. As the car pulled forward to and away from the standoff, it seemed as if it were part of a silent movie as this car makes no sound. A true silent runner.

Car 6 at the starting standoff.

Car 1 followed by a spectator, picking up their well deserved on course at Trap 5 from the lovely Miss Kelly Teal. At the earlier visit to Trap 4 by this car Kelly was in hiding so as not to give away the surpise of the impending on course.

Car 6 & 4 at on course Trap 5

These were the only 2 cars not to visit the off course of Trap 4.

Car 4 leaving Trap 5

The navigator shakes his fist at the course worker of Trap 4 as they pull away from getting their on course at Trap 5. Trap 4, an off course across the street from Trap 5, was visited by 4 of the 6 cars.

It is so nice to see a navigator who can keep his cool under pressure.

Trap 4 - Car 5 turning around after Off Course

This was an Acute Right Loop Road Trap. Car 5 and 3 other cars turned Right early into this trap. The gracious Bentley can been seen in background turning as the lovely Miss Kelly Teal hides behind the truck so as not to give away her precence for a later surprise on that road.
