Feb 22, 2003 Mini Rally

Hosted with the BMW Car Club of BC

Designed as a Training Rally to spark interest in Classic TSD; this 1hr 50 minute 3 Stage Rally went from Sultan's house in Burnaby to SFU and back again.
Although no timing checkpoints were used, the Rally did prove to have its traps.  5 in fact - 4 off course, 1 on course.  In addition to the TSD was a Monte Carlo section which of course was timed.
Trap 1(off course) - ONTO Trap
Trap 2(off course) - OPPORTUNITY Trap
Trap 3(off course) - OCCURRENCE/BECOMES Trap
Trap 4(off course) - ACUTE TURN Trap
Trap 5(on course) - PHYSIOLOGICAL Trap (Unnerve the Navigator into thinking they messed up.)
Despite the weather being a little rainy, some diehards were out with the top down.

Under a normal TSD Rally the Timed Checkpoints usually break the ties when points are equal.  It is very rare that a RallyMaster has to look at 2 teams with the same score and make a decision as to who should place above the other.  In the case of this rally I had to do so for Cars 1 & 6 and Cars 4 & 13 and Cars 8 & 12.  Here is my reasoning for placing them as I did:
Cars 1 & 6
Car 1 still managed to zero the Monte Carlo despite the fact they were using the in dash clock which they set as I waved them off the start line.  I feel this deserves credit because they had to wait for it to change before shooting for the timing line.
Cars 4 & 13
I based my decision on the fact that the Car 4 team has done TSD checkpoints in the past therefore they have some exposure to this game. That gives car 13 a slight handicap over them.
Cars 8 & 12
Car 8 was 39 seconds late to the Monte Carlo.  Car 12 was only 17 seconds late to the Monte Carlo.

As a training rally, the scores don't really matter.  However, this is a good example of how the scoring is done.  For the first time the learning curve is always steep.  Everyone did great and I know everyone will do much better on the March 16, 2003 Mini Rally.

Eddy Cooper showed up driving this colourful example of a 2002. This is a wonderful example of how the BMW 2002's just keep going and going. Puts the Energizer Bunny to shame.
