Coat Care

Caring for a smooth coated dog like a basset does not need to be a chore.  Regular and relatively simple maintenance on the coat will keep the dog's coat healthy and the dog looking nice.

All dogs shed.  But regular grooming will help cut down the hair left around the house.

All dogs also have an odor.  The healthy dog's odor is not unpleasant.  A dog that has not been groomed regularly will have a stronger odor than the well-groomed dog.   If a dog is not healthy, not fed a well-balanced diet that agrees with it, or has allergies and skin conditions, there is many  challenges to cutting down on the doggy odor, and  in keeping the dog comfortable.   But with the help of a good diet, good care and a veterinarian's help and advice this can still be done.

This coat care page is to help care for the the healthy, smooth-coated dog.
