This basset purse created quite a stir in the summer of 2001. I made 2 from some upholstery tapestry fabric I bought on sale and sent a photo on e-mail to a friend. She told 2 friends, and they told 2 friends, and within 2 days I had many orders. I made as many as I could, finally running out of fabric at 19 purses, a jacket, an antique chair seat, and 4 cushion covers. Everyone was very happy with their purse when they received in in the mail.
People so wanted a basset purse, that they suggested that I just use a bit of the basset fabric to make it go farther, and at that time I offered the alternating fabric in denim or dark blue shantung silk. Therefore the combination denim and basset fabric purses came about. Some were made with denim lining as well with hand stenciled paw prints and bassets inside. This purse was made from one of the 4 cushion covers that I had cut out for myself. This photo shows the shoulder strap handle and flap purse.
This lining worked out very well in the denim purse.
This purse, at approximately dimension of 14 inches X 4 inches thick, is large enough to hold glasses, cell phone, large wallet, a 4X6 makeup bag and a book or magazine. Sorry the basset upholstery fabric is no longer available. The lining fabric is still available. Please see the next page for alternate fabrics that this purse can be made of. There is also a selection of other purses and totes. This purse sold for $40 US or $60 Canadian, plus shipping.
