Secretaries like to know where people are and what their up to so that they know how to direct calls better. With this application the employees can let the secretaries know what their up to without leaving there computer stations. In my previous employment there was nothing available like this to use for a reasonable price. So I decided to create one for you, I hope that you find this program useful. Please email me and let me know what you like or don't like so that I can change this program to be off more use to you and everyone else. All the best.

Required

This application runs on Windows 95 and above
(Tested on Windows 95, NT 4.0, and XP)
It requires Winsock2 (which allows TCP/IP connections)

Setting up

There is no installation program, since each application is a very small file. You only need one file on each computer or they can be stored on a network drive. You can ONLY have ONE server application running one anyone computer. The server application can be run on the any computer (sorry but I haven't been able to test the limits of this application. i.e., I don't know how many clients can connect to a given server.)

Copy the file (either IOSERVER.EXE or IOCLIENT.EXE) to a place that accessed easily by the user.

Create a shortcut in the startup folder (to have them start automatically, or any where else to have the user click on the icon.)

When the user logs in they will just need to change their status.

That's it. If you have any problems, please check my web site for FAQs or email me.

Server

If you run the IOServer application first and click the File/Setup menu item, you will be able to determine the Server's IP address to use when setting up the client application.

Client

The first time you run the client application, you will be asked for: the name of the person that is using this log in (the client uses the user session entry in the  registry); the port used to connect to the server; the address of the server (you can use the IP address or the server's name.)

After the client is setup it will appear as an icon in the system tray. Either double-click or right-click on the icon to view your options. You can run setup from the popup menu to change your configuration options.

Clients will resend their messages roughly every minute to make sure that their message was send to the server. Because every client will be started at different times there shouldn't be any network bogging caused by this.

Uninstalling

Just delete the IOSERVER.EXE and IOCLIENT.EXE files. You can also delete the following Registry entry (ONLY IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE  DOING THIS. The entries take up little space and can be useful later if you change your mind about using this product in the future.)

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\WAR\INOUT
