Cowichan Valley Visions Art Tour

The work of the Surrealists, especially Dali and Magritte awakened my passion and need for visual communication. I admire the atmospheric quality of Dali, the intricacy of Bosch, and the stark line and irony of Magritte. Contemporary artists that inspire me are; Rothko, I love the rich luminous depth of his colourfield surfaces. Deborah Butterfield’s life-size horse sculptures strike me as a beautiful balance of abstraction while maintaining form. The integration of rust and decaying surfaces speaks to me of the ephemeral nature of the materialism and consumerism. Abstraction and experimentation are an integral part of my expression, and I am constantly in process of exploring the balance between; surface and symbol, abstraction and form.
