Pumpkin Cookies

1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pie filling!)

1/4 cup liquid honey
1/4 cup water
2 tbsp canola oil
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda

Preheat oven to 350°F.  In a large bowl, whisk together pumpkin puree, honey, water, oil, egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, cinnamon, baking powder and baking soda until well incorporated. In the bowl and using hands, knead until dough holds together. Transfer to lightly floured surface. Divide dough into 2 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a log. Flatten the logs to make about 4 inches wide.  With a fork, poke holes all over the surface of the logs. Place about 4 inches apart on non-stick baking sheet.  Bake in preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until firm. Place pan on a rack and let cool for 30 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 300°F.  With a sharp knife, cut each log into 1/4-inch thick slices. Place, cut side down, about 1/2 inch apart on baking sheets. Bake for 30 minutes longer or until hard. Transfer cookies to a rack and let cool completely. Store in a tightly sealed container for up to 30 days.  Makes about 1 pound.

Chicken Liver Cookies

2 cups flour
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup wheat germ or cornmeal (or 1/2 cup each)
1 egg; lightly beaten
1/2 cup chicken broth (or use the liver water from boiling the livers)
2 teaspoon chopped parsley
1 cup chopped chicken livers, cooked

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Combine flour and wheat germ (or cornmeal). In separate bowl, beat egg with oil, add broth and parsley, mix well. Add dry ingredients to bowl a little at a time, stirring well. Fold in chicken livers and mix well. Dough will be firm. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead briefly. Roll out ½" thick and cut into shapes. Place on greased cookie sheets 1" apart. Bake 15 minutes or until firm. Store in refrigerator or freezer.

Satin Balls

Homemade dog treat recipes like this is one can really help in putting weight on an animal quickly, as some use it for putting a couple extra pounds on a show animal prior to the big day, or an animal that may have been ill and needs a weight gain program. It has also been reported that these homemade dog treat recipes will help with some forms of hair loss, such as when your dog(s) blow their coat, to keep the coat healthy and shiny. This recipe is intended to be fed raw.

10 lbs hamburger meat
1 jar wheat germ
1 large box of oatmeal (uncooked)
1 1/4 cup vegetable oil
10 eggs
10 small package of flavourless gelatin
1 1/4 cup flavourless molasses
A pinch of salt
1 large box Total cereal (2 lb)

(You may also add a pinch of garlic powder to add flavour)

Mix all ingredients together well, much like a meat-loaf, then put into separate freezer bags and freeze, thawing out as needed. It puts weight on in a very short time, not to mention the gloss in their coat. You can use it every day when they have a show to do and it does not produce diarrhea. It can be fed alone or with kibble.

No Flea Dog Biscuits

(If your dog has a yeast allergy, you should not make these biscuits)
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup brewers yeast
1/2 tsp salt
2 each cloves garlic, minced
3 tablespoons vegetable or olive oil
1 cup chicken stock (or any flavor you wish to use)

Preheat oven to 400 F. Grease two to three baking sheets. Combine first four ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, combine garlic and oil. Slowly stir flour mixture and stock alternately into oil and garlic, beating well, until the dough is well-mixed. Shape dough into a ball. On lightly floured surface, roll out dough 12" thick. Using a 2" biscuit cutter, cut dough into rounds. Transfer biscuits to prepared baking sheets. Bake 20-25 minutes or until well browned. Turn off heat and allow biscuits to dry in oven for several hours or over night. Store in refrigerator or freezer. Makes about 26 biscuits.

Biscuits for gluten intolerant dogs

6 cups rice flour

6 1/4 cups water

2 1/2cups corn meal

2 1/2 cups oat meal

2 eggs

3 TBSP ground cinnamon

3 TBSP alfalfa powder

3 TBSP kelp powder

In a mixing bowl, mix all the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then add the water and mix. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and make into a dough. Roll the dough and cut some biscuits. Place biscuits on a tray and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. I like to roll the dough on cornmeal or bulgur to prevent sticking. I also use this on the cookie tray.

This is a hard biscuit to roll as brown rice has no gluten. As a result you may need some practice to make this biscuit, but on the other paw this biscuit is good for gluten intolerant dogs and because it will break easily, this biscuit is excellent for training purposes.
