When we were children, we looked up at the sky and saw shapes in the changing clouds. We could imagine ourselves reaching up to touch them. When we got older, we stopped looking up, trading daydreams and fancy for the necessary forward focus on reality. I invite you to revisit the sky and imagine yourself, unfettered by day-to-day concerns, free to soar among the clouds.
The process of producing these paintings took me to a place of calm and quiet, at a time when life was anything but predictable. With every brush stroke I was removed from the day-to-day concerns, high above the cares of the world.
These paintings do not include man-made or terrestrial references; they are about freedom to leave it all behind.
Take a deep breath, relinquish your burdens, relax and enjoy the journey. Be a child again.
If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive. (Eleonora Duse)
These paintings were featured in my March 2010 solo show "Brush the Sky".
