The Hubble Space Telescope was carried into Earth orbit by the Space Shuttle in April 1990. It is named for American astronomer Edwin Hubble. Hubble is a collaboration between NASA and the European Space Agency, and is part of NASA's Great Observatories series, with the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, the Chandra X-ray Observatory, and the Spitzer Space Telescope.
The extrodinary beauty of space, brought to earth by Hubble, has inspired this series. I have translated these images of our universe - the birth, life and death of stars, the energy of an exploding nebula, the shattered remains of a supernova that exploded thousands of years ago, an expanding halo of light around a distant star – into studies of color and movement.
These paintings were featured in my November 2008 solo show "Out In The Ordinary".
