2006 Legend
The number in front of the horse's name, is its registration number.
( ) The number in the round brackets represents the total number of offspring that the particular stallion sired. These numbers are current as of October 20, 2000.
[ / ] The first number in the square bracket is the number of male offspring which were registered as stallions (eg does not include male offspring registered as geldings). The second number (after the slash) in the square brackets represents male offspring standing at stud (determined by whether they have offspring registered to them or who are known to be standing at stud).
Grey text Denotes a stallion which has expired, been gelded or is no longer at stud.
The black Bar Denotes a stallion which has either expired or been gelded and which has left either no male offspring whatsoever, or else no male offspring at stud, with which to carry on the line. In effect, this particular branch of the male line has now died out.

Statistics

General Information
(As of Oct 2000)

There are only 147 horses in total registered in the Lou line.

This line makes up only 3% of the entire Canadian Horse breed.

Of this line, only one sire, Bienvenue Lou Heros, and 6 of his male offspring are at stud.

Addendum: in 2006, disappointingly, there has been only a tiny improvement in the number of Lou Heros male offspring standing at stud (from 6 to 7).

Breakdown of Numbers

Bienvenue Lou Heros himself has sired 90 registered offspring (as of October 2000), and his descendants an additional 28 offspring. Between them, they have sired 80 % of the horses from this line.

This line is at significant risk of being lost due to its small population. Heros has sired only 12 male offspring registered as stallions, and of these, only 6 have gone to stud. At present, there are presently are only 6 actively breeding stallions left (including the aged Heros himself). Half of Lou Hero's sons have had no male offspring to carry on the line. Of the three sons with male offspring, none have offspring at stud at this time. If breeders do not make a concerted effort to save it, this line will soon be lost.
