Worship on the Coast

We welcome visitors, newcomers and residents to our church life and worship. We are all children of a loving God, and so are all ‘family’. We strive to be an inclusive community of faith, and to learn and journey with each other. Our Shared Ministry is one in which members with United or Anglican backgrounds have merged with those from other religious traditions and those new to involvement in ‘church’. Our worship reflects Anglican and United traditions, of both Holy Communion and Services of the Word. We use the Book of Alternative Services for Anglican Services, and rely mainly on resources from ‘Celebrating God’s Presence’ for our United Services.

Worship Pattern

While honouring elements that are distinctly Anglican or United, we have adopted a pattern of worship that is similar in shape from week to week, so that worshippers will feel comfortable no matter what service they attend.

Our typical monthly pattern of worship is:
First Sunday: Anglican Communion Service
Second Sunday: Anglican Morning Prayer
Third Sunday: United Communion
Fourth Sunday: United Service of the Word

Because our churches are named after Celtic saints, and we, like the Celts, live and worship ‘on the edge’ well, we use Celtic Liturgies from time to time. These are often on ‘fifth’ Sundays, and on Sundays we remember various Celtic missionaries and saints.

Everone Plays a Part

Many people help in the leadership of worship. Musicians are always an important resource and backbone of our worship leadership (thanks!). Others read the lessons or lead the prayers, act as greeters or assist in sharing communion. In both of our churches, regular worshippers and visitors are encouraged to stay after the service for refreshments and to share a story or two.

Music

Our music is drawn from ‘Voices United’ and other sources to which we have copyright access through ‘LicenSing:Copyright Cleared Music for Churches’ (Woodlake Books / www.woodlakebooks.com or 800-663-2775). Each month we learn a new ‘hymn of the month’, and continue to explore old favourites and new music from our hymn book
