Common Ground News
Visioning and planning healthy
& sustainable communities
Vol 1 No. 2
Spring 2001
Spring has come to Common
Ground after a very active Winter. Common Ground's 'Our Community
Green Map' is now underway with the help of UVIC and Camosun Geography
Departments and the Provincial Capital Commission. We hope to have
a web and print copy ready for the Fall of 2001. Volunteers are
researching icon information and we are finalizing themes and 'the
look' we want it to have.
Community, neighborhood
and mapping projects in our Capital Region are being written up
and compiled in a Common Ground Network Directory to be published
in print and on our website for mid-April. We are also publishing
our annual report and a new Community Mapping Guide for May 1st,
2001.
A Common Ground community
mapping and planning networking and training series will be offered
to community groups beginning on Monday April 9th and continuing
on April 16th and 30th. The first two nights will be focused on
community and schools mapping and the last on understanding community
planning. Guest speaker Tammy Tephechka from the Grandview Woodlands
Community Mapping Project in Vancouver will join us for the first
session. Final details on the topics and speakers will be available
by March 21st. The goal is to get groups and individuals learning
together and meeting one another, sharing their ideas on how to
make community mapping work and hopw to tie it into innovative and
effective planning. We'll also work on our Regional Green Map together.
That's it for now. Drop
by or give us a call anytime. There are many volunteer and learning
opportunties for all!
