In the fall of 2007, when the clear-out prices occurred, I purchased a new SUZUKI
LT-A450X ATV. This is a 450cc engine and all the power that I need. The winter passed very
SLOWLY as I impatiently awaited the arrival of Spring. We are very fortunate to have an
abandoned rail line beginning at Castlegar and passing through the mountains west towards
Grand Forks. The first 61 kilometers to a huge washout is 'legal' for ATVs. I spent much
of the season exploring this beautiful area as well as other trips into the High Country.
I added a passenger seat to the rear rack so that Jeannette could also see some of these
areas that are not too rough to access. I equipped the ATV with a winch, rear view mirror and
I built a holder for the GPS.
Although these machines will go almost anywhere, much care must be employed to remain
safely on the trail. I was following a friend up a difficult narrow climb when he rolled
his machine three times down the steep bank with himself on it. By the grace of God although
bruised he suffered no broken bones or internal injuries. We were then faced with the difficult
task of getting this 750 pound machine off its side, back up the bank and onto the trail.
For those that remember my faithful old LandCruiser, she sits awaiting a new owner,
having been replaced by a 2006 Jeep Liberty. To handle the moving of the ATV I equipped the
Liberty with a trailer hitch and purchased an ATV trailer.
