KOOTENAY   CANAL

Not far from Nelson is a power generating area called Kootenay Canal. The canal brings excess water from the Kootenay River for a distance of 4 kilometers to the penstocks. The area of interest here is the section between the intake and the bridge.

Sandwiched between the canal and the river is a wonderful wild area of bush, beaver ponds and river's edge. Numerous dead trees offer high perches for Raptors, as well as sites for cavity nesting birds. The beavers are active and there is constant evidence of their dam building work.

My childhood was spent by the Columbia River and that love of water is evident in the images I collect. This is a selection of the many images from the Kootenay Canal.

Place your mouse pointer on the images for a brief description.
