OLD    GROWTH    TRAIL

The OLD GROWTH TRAIL is 11.5 kM up the road to Gibson Lake and the Kokanee Glacier. The trailhead is located on the left side of the road and is marked by a large brown sign. There is parking for 4 to 5 cars at the trailhead and more 50 M up the road to the right. This is a self-guided trail with pamphlets available a short distance down the trail.

16 September 2000.  As of this date, the far end of the first bridge over Kokanee Creek on the Cedar Grove Loop is washed out. A piece of tree and a rickety hand rail have been placed allowing passage. ( See images below. ) This is NOT an easy crossing. The tree is wobbly and narrow, 0.5M of rushing water is under foot. There are two large trees immediately downstream which provide an alternate route for those with good balance.

As its name implies, the marvel of this outing is the Old Growth Forest, specifically the huge 600 year old Cedar trees. I hope you enjoy these images which give a taste of the beauty and wonder to be found on the trail.
