THREE PONDS

One of my favourite hikes is the Mel Deanna trail. Looking at the topographical map for the area, I noticed there are three ponds south-east of the main Mel Deanna pond. Nothing would do but go and have a look. Two trips into the area brought out the following images. Although the contour placement on the topo maps looks quite flat, in reality it isn't! On the east side of the first pond there is a cliff 20 meters high. We climbed the cliff and looked down on the pond. There are open meadows throughout the area. We've been down both sides of the pond and recommend the east side.

There isn't a trail into the ponds, you just take off across country and make your way through the dense bush. I imagined we were the first people into the ponds. Was I surprised when we found a five gallon plastic bucket! Mushroom pickers?

This hike was in late October 1999, winter was just around the corner. The date accounts for the colors and the warm clothing!
