RIPPLE RIDGE CABIN
SNOWSHOEING

The Ripple Ridge Cabin is accessed at the top of the Salmo - Creston Pass. Leave your vehicle at Summit Lake and cross the highway to the south of the car park. The trail begins at this point and climbs for 1.5 hours up to the cabin. It is a great day excursion in to the cabin, lunch and then back out. The cabin will sleep about six and is used throughout the winter for skiing and snowboarding.

This cabin is beside Summit Lake. The ice on the lake stretches out from you in a perfectly smooth vista.

Gorgeous winter scenery greets you along the trail. The smaller trees are covered in snow and display incredibly varied shapes. The three images below display a tree beside the trail. I've outlined the tree to enhance the size and shape. JoAnn provides perspective.
She turned to the tree, attacked it, knocking off all the snow. Then we learned there were TWO small trees there.

These are Subalpine Fir. At this elevation they raise their slender crowns high above the landscape. There isn't much snow on them for this time of the season.

These two images are from last year's trip.

See the wood chips at the front door? This year there is a set of steps rising three feet that are under the snow and chips in this image!

The original cabin stood until 2000. It was taken down and this what it looked like at the entrance last year. The window is at JoAnn's left elbow. There was SO much snow, it was a steep descent into the cabin.
