James's daughter, Sarah Ann, was alive in 1880 and both her parents were reported born in Pennsylvania in the 1880 federal census for Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, dwelling 163, family 165. However places of birth of parents in the 1880 census were often erroneous, especially for parents of people not present when the census was taken.

There was another early Joseph Whitsett of Kentucky. On 20 December 1794, Rebecca Stewart married Joseph Whitsett in Clark County, Kentucky. Rebecca was born circa 1778 in Gloucester County, New Jersey; she was a daughter of Ezekial and Rachel (Larrison) Stewart. Joseph Whitsett, born circa 1774, died 1824, was a son of Samuel and Margaret (Tuttle) Whitsett. Perhaps this Joseph was a cousin of our Joseph Whitsett. Clark County is south of and borders on Bourbon County. According to records of William Thornton Whitsett (1866-1936), housed in the University of North Carolina Library (?Chapel Hill, North Carolina), three Whitsett brothers, William (born 20 August 1731), John and Joseph, came to Pennsylvania from County Antrim, Ireland, in 1740, at which time William was married, but probably not John and Joseph. They were sons of William (1709-1798) and Elizabeth (Dawson) Whitsett, and the grandsons of Samuel Whitsett (1664-1754) of County Antrim. A Gedcom pertaining to "Hord, Haefner, and Wheat of Canada and Missouri" (Family Tree Maker file #2848, submitted 11 June 1995) gives information on the descendants of John Whitsett (father of Samuel, born circa 1740, died 1815). Names, dates and locations in this Gedcom strongly suggest that our Joseph was also a son of this John Whitsett (no dates or nor the name of wife), and therefore probably a grandson of the above mentioned William (1709-1798) and Elizabeth (Dawson) Whitsett, and the great grandson of Samuel Whitsett (1664-1754) of County Antrim.

According to an 18 January 1960 letter to Charles D. Clifford (Fort Mitchell, Kentucky) from Jessie (Smith) McCormick (#1957), Charles Clifford was supposed to have written on a piece of paper his children's birth years. Jessie, a daughter of Sara Clifford Smith, came into possession of these records. She was a Recorder of Deeds for Westmoreland County. The location of this piece of paper now is unknown.

Also mentioned: "James Barber Lawson, the reputed natural child of my son Hugh." The will was written 18 February 1825, recorded 12 April 1826. Witnesses were Thomas Pollock and Charles Clifford. However Margaret Krecota in July 2008 emails (jkrecota@windstream.net), a Robert Lytle (Jane's father) worker, suggests, based on pre-1850 census records, that Jane probably could not have been born much before 1775. I now feel this is much closer to the mark than being born in 1765.

On 24 February 1835, letters of administration in the name of the estate of Charles Clifford, late of Ligonier Township, were granted to Edward Clifford, with Thomas Beam and John McGowan as sureties (Orphans Court Docket Aad, page 208, 1835). I believe this Charles was the son of Joseph (and hence a brother of Edward). Thomas Beam married Rachel Clifford (#235), a sister of Charles and Edward.

Several of our ancestors are buried in "Fairfield cemeteries" in Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. There are three "Fairfield cemeteries" in Fairfield Township. According to Michael Caldwell (see later), one, which I will call the Antiochian Village Cemetery, is at the site of the former Camp Fairfield (now Antiochian Village), about half way between Ligonier and West Fairfield. "Heading north from Ligonier on Route 711, turn right onto the road leading back to Antiochian Village. The little cemetery is on the right just beyond the entrance gate." Another Fairfield cemetery, called West Fairfield Cemetery (there is also a West Fairfield Methodist Cemetery in West Fairfield), is in West Fairfield, on Route 711, to the left, as one drives north. The third is the Union Church Cemetery, at the site of the former "Union" Church in the village of West Fairfield. Since many stones of these cemeteries are broken or unreadable, some ancestors listed as buried in "Fairfield Cemetery" could be buried in any of the three cemeteries. This information on the Fairfield cemeteries is online, by Michael S. Caldwell-see Caldwell, M. C., in the References section for complete citation.

The following information on the Jacksons is from "Descendants of John Jackson (1716-1801), ancestors of Thomas J. 'Stonewall' Jackson", online genealogy resource from Virginia Military Institute Archives, read January 2001.

Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson's great grandparents were John Jackson (born circa 1716 in Coleraine, Londonderry, northern Ireland; John Jackson died 25 September 1801 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia) and Elizabeth (Cummins) Jackson (born 8 January 1719-1720 in London, England, died 1825 in Clarksburg, West Virginia); both John and Elizabeth are buried in Jackson Cemetery, East Pike Street, Clarksburg, West Virginia. John and Elizabeth's second born child was (Colonel) Edward Jackson, born 1 March 1759 near Moorefield, Hampshire County, present-day Hardy County, West Virginia, died 25 December 1828 in Jackson's Mill, Lewis County, Virginia (present-day West Virginia). Edward married (first) 13 October 1783 Mary Haddan, born 15 May 1764, possibly in New Jersey, died 17 April 1796 near Buckhannon, Virginia; Edward married (second) 13 October 1799 Elizabeth Weatherholt Brake, born 11 January 1778, probably in Hardy County, Virginia, died 19 August 1835 in Jackson's Mill, Virginia. Edward and first wife Mary (Hadden) Jackson's third child was Jonathon Jackson, born 25 September 1790 in Randolph County, Virginia, died 26 March 1826 in Clarksburg, Harrison County, Virginia. Jonathon married 28 September 1817 Julia Beckwith Neale, born 28 February 1798 near Aldie, Loudoun County, Virginia, died 3 December 1831 in Fayette County, Virginia. Jonathon and Julia's third child was Thomas Jonathon Jackson (General "Stonewall" Jackson), born 21 January 1824 in Clarksburg, Virginia, died 10 May 1863 near Guiney's Station, Virginia; he married (first) 3 August 1853 Elinor Junkin, born 6 March 1825 in Lexington, Virginia, died 22 October 1854, shortly after giving birth to a stillborn child. Thomas married (second) 16 July 1857 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Mary Anna Morrison, born 31 July 1831, died 24 March 1915 in Charlotte. After Jonathon Jackson died, Julia (Neale) Jackson married Blake Baker Woodson and had son William Wirt Woodson, a half-brother of Stonewall Jackson. Edward and first wife Mary (Hadden) Jackson's sixth child was Rebecca Jackson; she married George Beavers White; hence Rebecca was an aunt of General "Stonewall" Jackson. Edward and second wife Elizabeth (Brake) Jackson's first child was Catherine "Katy" Jackson, who married John White; hence Catherine was also and aunt of General Jackson.

Notes were charged against Robert Clifford (several) [son, #542] , John Clifford [ possibly son John J., #545, son of James, #212], Edward Clifford [son, #540], William Clifford [son, #541], Charles Clifford [brother, #213], Alexander Clifford [son, #539], Lindsey A. Clifford [probably Lindsey A., son (#537) instead of Lindsey A., brother, #217] and Jack Clifford [probably brother John Jackson Clifford, #218]. Other purchasers included Samuel Levesque, Newton Richardson, V. ?D. Howell (Howe), John Marr and Henry Roberts.

I am convinced the Hutchinsons and the Cliffords were related. Robert and his brother James Clifford witnessed the will of John Hutchinson in 1838 (Harrison County, Kentucky, Will Book C, page 42, written 7 June 1838; recorded August 1838. Witnesses were David Evans, Robert Clifford and James Clifford). This was apparently the John Hutchinson who married Sally Azby, a sister of Nancy Azby who married Robert Clifford (#211) and a sister to Rachel Azby who married James Clifford (#212). Some of the known sons (daughters were not mentioned in John Hutchinson's will) of John and Sally (Azby) Hutchinson were Lindsey Hutchinson, Edward Hutchinson, James Hutchinson, John Hutchinson, and Samuel Hutchinson. Robert Clifford was the administrator of an estate sale of Benjamin Hutchinson on 23 August 1833 (Harrison County, Kentucky, Wills, 1832-1847, page 120, FHL 0216865), in which Robert Clifford, James Clifford, and Lindsey Clifford (#217-the brother of Robert and James), along with James Hutchinson, William Hutchinson, Benjamin Hutchinson, Edward Hutchinson, Benjamin Lemon, and Sidney Fisher, were major purchasers. In 1844, James S. Clifford (#536) and Lewis Penn (or Perrin?), were witnesses to the will of a John Hutchinson, who mentioned his father (not named) and sister Mary, and "… the balance among my brothers and sisters" (Harrison County, Kentucky, Wills, Book E, 1832-1847, recorded 21 November 1844, page 184, FHL 0216865). In 1855, William Clifford witnessed the will of John Hutchinson, who I believe was his first cousin; this John being a son of John (at that time deceased) and Sally (Azby) Hutchinson (Harrison County, Kentucky, Will Book G, 1853-59), written 30 August 1855, recorded 1 December 1855, page 243, FHL film 0216866). Perhaps Edward Clifford's wife was a Hutchinson. Note there were Hutchinsons on the Fayette County, Pennsylvania, tax list in the 1780s and 1790s, and they were being taxed in Tyrone Township when Edward was being taxed there (page 80 of Fayette County, Pennsylvania, Taxpayers 1785-1799, 175 pages. Harrison County, Kentucky, Deed Book 5, 1816-1818, page 395, instituted 13 May 1816, recorded 31 July 1816 (FHL film 0216851). In 1818, Robert purchased 68 acres of land on Twin Creek from Samuel Hinkson and wife Susannah, but the deed was defective because the boundaries were not described; a new deed was instituted in which Robert purchased an additional 40 acres (Harrison County, Kentucky, Deed Book 6, 1818-1820, page 395, instituted 30 November 1819, recorded 30 November 1819, FHL film 0216851). These 108 acres would appear to be a major component of the land Robert was taxed for during his life in Harrison County. In 1822, Robert purchased land on Twin Creek, Harrison County, from James and Dorcas McKey of Fayette County, Kentucky (Harrison County Deed Book 10, instituted and recorded 16 July 1825, page 399, FHL film 0216853). In 1833, Robert purchased land on Twin Creek from the heirs of Moses McClune (Harrison County Deed Book 14, 1832-1835, pages 210-211, instituted 29 August 1833; recorded 7 September 1833, FHL 0216855), and in 1834, Robert purchased land on the west side of Twin Creek, Harrison County, from David McKee (Harrison County Deed Book 14, 1832-1835, page 231, instituted 3 December 1834, recorded 4 December 1834, FHL 0216855).

Besides more information about John and Juliann Richardson's divorce proceedings, there is ample genealogical information about the Richardson in the "The Richardsons of Harrison County, Kentucky (LINK NOT FOUND, 2006)," 2000, by James G. Faulconer, 5200 Oakbrooke Drive, Kettering, Ohio 454440. The progenitors of this Richardson family in Kentucky were Jonathan and Mary Richardson, born 1759; they were from Cecil County, Maryland, and moved to Kentucky in the late 1790s, first to Montgomery County and by 1807 to Harrison County. Their children were (1) William Richardson (married Mary [-?-]); (2) David Richardson; (3) Rebecca Richardson (married Jacob Mason); (4) Malinda Richardson (married Levi Davis); (5) Lavinia Richardson (married Aaron Holland); (6) Nancy Ann Richardson (married Thomas W. Shepherd); (7) Mary Richardson (married Thomas J. Weathers); (8) Daniel Richardson (married Margaret Cullison); and (9) John Richardson, married and divorced Juliann Eckler; perhaps he also had a second wife.

John and Juliann (Eckler) Richardson's children were (1). Nancy Ann Richardson (twin), married Alexander D. Clifford (#539). (2). Mary J. Richardson (twin), married A. J. Thompson. (3). James E.
