- 1850 federal census for William McDowell household, Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, dwelling 23, family 23. William and Rebecca were enumerated at dwelling 367, family 367. Next door (dwelling and family 368) were Henry McDowell, age 66; Jane McDowell, age 64; Chambers McDowell, age 8 (blind); Susan McDowell, age 4; Sarah Enos, age 18; and Henry Enos, age 7. Next to them (#369) were John McDowell, age 28; Martha McDowell, age 21; and Margaret McDowell, age 1. Next (#370) were John McDowell, age 70; William McDowell, age 31; Polly McDowell, age 31; Hamilton McDowell, age 17; John McDowell, age 7; George McDowell, age 5; Sarah McDowell, age 3; and Christena McDowell, age 1. In the last McDowell household (#371) were Samuel McDowell, age 27; Lydia A. McDowell, age 19; and Benjamin F. McDowell, age 3 months. Since John McDowell, age 70, apparently had a son William, probably Henry McDowell was the father of William McDowell who married Rebecca Clifford.

- Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Will Book ?, number 36 of 1879, written 3 January 1879, recorded 8 April 1879. Apparently the clerk made two errors in transcribing the will, having the will both written and recorded in 1869 instead of 1879. These are errors since James's stone reads he died in 1879, he was enumerated in Fairfield Township in 1870, and the inventory and appraisement of his estate did not take place until 11 March 1879, reported 11 April 1879 (Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Court House, Oath of Appraisers).

- From Matilda's obituary in the Ligonier Echo (Ligonier, Pennsylvania), 12 February 1902. What is perplexing is the James Clifford, single man, taxed in Ligonier Township in 1841: "laborer ($50) and 1 horse ($30) (Iscrupe, W. L. (1977). Ligonier Township tax lists, 1829-1842. - According to Michael Caldwell : "This cemetery [West Fairfield Methodist Cemetery] is across the street from the former Methodist Episcopal church, which has been converted into an auction barn. On the same plot of land as the cemetery stands a newer church, the United Presbyterian Church. This has caused some confusion in that when the cemetery is referred to as the Methodist cemetery, it is not understood because there are no longer any Methodist churches in West Fairfield. As in many older cemeteries, there are unreadable stones and unmarked graves."

- This battle was fought on the Niagara peninsula, near Niagara Falls, on the west side of the Niagara River, the Canadian, or then British, side. Major General Riall apparently mistook General Winfield Scott's troops for ill-trained militia instead of one of the best trained units in the American Army. Riall's attachments, which included the 8th and 100th regiments, the Royal Scots, the Lincoln Militia, and aboriginals, attacked, but were quickly repulsed, and Riall retreated across Chippawa Creek to Fort George. The British lost 148 killed and 321 wounded; the Americans lost 48 killed and 277 wounded.

- A Pennsylvania Historical Marker marks the location (circa 0.8 miles north of Muncy, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania), where Samuel's father was killed. The text reads: "Captain John Brady (LINK NOT FOUND, 2006). The famed Indian fighter and hero of the colonial wars and the Revolution was killed in ambush by Indians near here April 11, 1779. He was in charge of Fort Brady at present Muncy at the time." According to the Brady Family Heritage Association, Samuel's brother James Brady died 13 August 1778 of wounds received five days earlier in an Indian raid in the vicinity of Muncy, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.
- 1406.
- Both Samuel's parents were killed by aboriginals according to the Illustrated historical combination atlas of Clarion County, Pennsylvania (LINK NOT FOUND, 2006), published by J. A. Caldwell (1877). However, since John Brady's wife, Mary (Quigley) Brady, did not die until 1783; if she was killed by aboriginals it would not have been in the 1779 ambush in Lycoming County that killed her husband. The Clarion County Atlas states that Captain Samuel Brady was the first white man to settle within the limits of Clarion County, at what would be present-day East Brady, but had only a cabin on the land. After the war: "He was indicted in Pittsburgh for killing an Indian, and gave the Brady's Bend tract of land to Judge Ross, who was an attorney in Pittsburgh at the time, for defending him, and succeeded in having him acquitted; Judge Ross did obtain the title to this land, but the recital in the deeds on record do not show how or from whom he received his title."

- From The Historical Society of Pennsylvania, Revolutionary War Military Abstract Card Files. Apparently "Capt. Lt." Samuel Brady has three cards. They give his regiment as the Pennsylvania 8th; one gives his date of commission (17 July 1776) and also when he was appointed [?for his mission by General Brodhead] in Pittsburgh, 6 June 1779; another pertains to his allowance; and the third reads "Return of the Officers of the Penna. Line who retired from service the 1st day of January, 1783 for one months pay."
