214. JANE5 CLIFFORD
( Edward4,
Charles3,
James2,
unknown Clifford1);
born circa 1804 in Kentucky; still alive in 1880; 1023 married August 1831 in Harrison County, Kentucky; 1024 JOHN SELLERS (or Sellars); born 1798 in Virginia. 1025 The name in Harrison County is spelled both Sellers and Sellars. I will spell it Sellers throughout.
John Sellers was a son of Henry Sellers 1026 and (tentative) Susan Sellers. 1027 Other children of Henry Sellers included
(a) Susannah Sellers, married, 13 December 1821 in Harrison County, Kentucky, Isaac Woolery (Ullery?).
(b) David Sellers, married, 1843, in Harrison County Susannah Eckler; one child was Zelinda/Zerilda Sellers who married Louis Mortensen Martin; he was an attorney in the Cynthiana area. 1028
(c) Catherine (Kitty) Sellers, married, 26 March 1812 in Harrison County, Jacob Huffman. 1029 One child of Jacob and Catherine was probably Mary Ann Huffman, born 27 July 1813 in Harrison County, died 20 December 1888 in Putnam County, Indiana. Both Jacob, born circa 1780-1790, and Catherine (Sellers) Huffman, born 17 June 1792 in Virginia or Maryland, are buried in Putnam County, Indiana. 1030
When Jane Clifford married John Sellers, her brother James Clifford (#212) was the surety and an H. C. Moore was the witness. 1031 John Sellers owned land, at least during the 1830s, on Twin Creek, Harrison County, Kentucky. 1032 In 1850, John, Jane and children Susan, Nancy, Martha, John and Elizabeth were living in Harrison County, Kentucky. 1033 In 1870, John and Jane were living with son John (H.) Sellers (head of household) and daughter Elizabeth Sellers. In 1880, Jane and her son John H. and John's wife Dallas (Roberts) Sellers were enumerated at Berry Station, Harrison County. 1034 In the columns indicating the birth locality of Jane and her parents, the enumerator had written Ky-Ky-Ky. But the entire page was of these entries as were other pages of this worker's enumerations, with no variation.

| Susan6 Sellers; born circa 1836. A Susan Sellers married 21 May 1871 William Arnold in Harrison County.1036 The 1880 federal census for Harrison County1037 lists a William Arnold, born circa 1828, miller; Amanda Arnold, age 19 (daughter); Ida Arnold, age 17 (daughter); Sarah Arnold, age 16 (daughter); Elisa (?Elias) Arnold, age 18, (son); Elizabeth Arnold, age 7, (daughter?); H. Vanhdok?, boarder (a physician); and a Cass Warner, 22, servant. If this William Arnold was the husband of our Susan Sellers, he was apparently a widower twice, with child Elizabeth Arnold being the only child of Susan.

| Nancy Sellers; born circa 1839; married, 6 November 1856, William H. Martin in the home of John Sellers.1038 Witnesses were David Sellers and Rankin Martin. In 1880 a William H. Martin, born circa 1830; Jennie Martin (his wife), born circa 1841; and children Henry Martin, born circa 1855; Joseph Martin, born 1862; ???ion Martin (son), born circa 1779; and Ollie Martin, born circa 1866 (adopted), were living in Harrison County.1039 Could Nancy have been Nancy Jane? But possibly Nancy was deceased by 1880, and Jennie was a second wife of William H. Martin. In 1880, a ?Taker (?Laker) Martin, born circa 1828 and wife Nancy Martin, born circa 1836, were living in Harrison County with children James Martin, born circa 1876, and Eliza Martin, born circa 1872.1040 Also in the household was an Alford Levesque, born circa 1858, boarder (school teacher). I can not connect him to the Levesques of our concern.

| iii.
| Martha Sellers; born circa 1843. Probably she was the Martha Sellers who married William H. Hick in 1860 in Harrison County.1041 The couple was married by John S. McKinney. A John S. McKinney was the husband of Drusilla Berry, Drusilla being a sister of Octavia Berry who married Lindsey Clifford (#537). (But there was also a Martha Sellers who married Newton Dunn 15 May 1865.)1042

| John H. Sellers; born 6 May 1845; died 5 June 1912; buried in Sunrise Cemetery, Harrison County;1043 married Dallas Roberts,1044 born circa 1845. In 1880, John and Dallas (no children) were living in Harrison County, with John's widowed mother, Jane (Clifford) Sellers. Dallas was listed as Dallas Roberts, not as Dallas Sellers.1045

| v.
| Elizabeth Sellers; born circa 1846. An Elizabeth Sellers married 8 March 1868 James Jones?.1046 There was also an Elizabeth H. Sellers, wife of T. J. Eckler; this couple had a child, Jamie Eckler, born 27 August 1876;1047 he probably was the James Eckler, born August 187?, living in Casons District of Harrison County in 1900 with wife Kate, born January 1879, and son Harry M. Eckler, born June 1899.1048

|
| There was a Henry Sellers who sold land on Wolf Creek, Harrison County, to Samuel Craig in 1860.1049 Possibly he was also a son of John and Jane (Clifford) Sellers.

215. MARY5 (POLLY) CLIFFORD
( Edward4,
Charles3,
James2,
unknown Clifford1);
born circa 1804; 1050 died summer of 1866; 1051 married 23 April 1818 GEORGE R. CHANDLER, 1052 born circa 1790-1800 in Virginia; 1053 died summer of 1850, 1054 before the 1850 federal census was taken.
On 24 August 1850, the inventory and sale bill of George's estate were reported. Thomas Waldon was the Administrator. 1055 The only Chandler listed in the sale bill was George's widow, Polly. Others purchasing items of the $94.94 total estate were Thomas Waldon, William Berry, Alfred Day, Sender Harris, Andrew Whitson and John Hutchinson. A "Settlement" document in the name of the estate of George R. Chandler was recorded 23 June 1852 (no details). 1056
Polly Chandler's estate inventory and sale bill was reported 16 June 1866. 1057 The Administrator was Alfred Day. The only Chandlers purchasing items were her children, Nancy Chandler and James Chandler. Other purchasers of the $204.75 estate included Alfred Day, Mike Burrows, A. Bowman, Mike Frey, Mary Andrews, L. Terry, William Lemon, and A. Whitson. A set of silver spoons, valued at $20.24, was a major item, purchased by Nancy Chandler, who also was debited for $68 for "rent of farm."
George R. Chandler was mentioned in Edward Clifford's 1833 estate sale, and of course George and Mary signed the "Edward Clifford Heirs to John Berry" quit claim document in 1834. I could not find Marry in the 1850 federal census for Harrison County-George had died in 1850 before the census. In 1860, Mary, as farm owner and head of household, and two children were living in the Colemanville area of Harrison County. Also enumerated with them in 1860 was a Francis Edwards, age 9.

| James Chandler; born circa 1837 in Kentucky; married Eva [-?-]; born circa 1840 in Kentucky. In 1860, James, not yet married, was listed as a farm hand in his mother's household. In 1880, James, Eva and children were living in Bourbon County, Kentucky.1059 Children of James and Eva Chandler, reported in the 1880 federal census: (1) Walter Chandler, born circa 1875; and (2) Lizzie Chandler, born circa 1878
|
Apparently there were other children. The 1840 federal census for George R. Chandler of Harrison County 1060 lists one male under 5 (James Chandler) and one male 5-10. Besides Mary, this census lists one female 5-10 (probably Nancy); one female 10-15; one female 15-20; and one female 20-30. Since George and Mary were married in April 1818, all these females could be daughters.
Several Chandlers were married in Harrison County between 1816 and 1818, as reported in Harrison County, Kentucky, Marriage Index, volume 1, 1794-1893, page 1270 (FHL film 0216877). Besides George R. Chandler and Polly Clifford, William Chandler married Hettie Parks 28 January 1818 (page 1229), Eliza Chandler married William Hutchinson 28 December 1816 (page 1816), and Emily Chandler married Benjamin Lemon December 1818 (page 1306).
217. LINDSEY5 A. CLIFFORD
( Edward4,
Charles3,
James2,
unknown Clifford1);
born circa 1810; in January 1833 (date of application was 7 January 1833) in Harrison County, Kentucky; probably deceased by the time of the 1880 federal census, and possibly by the time of the 1870 federal census. He married NANCY JONES; 1061 born circa 1812. 1062 I believe she was the Nancy Clifford, age 70, born Kentucky, parents born Kentucky, widowed, living as a boarder in the household of Anderson Sallie in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, in 1880. 1063
Nancy was a daughter of Lewis Jones (born 1780, died 1853) and Elizabeth (Schooler) Jones (born 19 April 1784, died 10 February 1863). Children of Lewis and Elizabeth (Schooler) Jones:
Nancy Jones; married Lindsey Clifford
Ann Jones; married George H. Parker
Lewis P. Jones; married Katherine Boggs; she was a sister of John Boggs, who married Joanna Jones, and a sister of Mary Boggs who married John Jackson Clifford (#218)
Margaret Jones; married Woodford Marr
Thomas P. Jones; married Elizabeth Ann Bozzell
James Jones; married Minerva Dyson
Bleamite Jones; married Dudley Whitson
Mary Jones; married Joseph Whitson
Johanna Jones; married John Boggs (see also Lewis P. Jones above). 1064
Lewis Jones' parents were Evan and Margaret (Baker) Jones. Robert Clifford (#211) was a witness of Evan Jones's will in 1821; the will mentions the following children: Lewis Jones, Evan Jones, John Jones, Polly Jones, Hannah Jones, Peggy Jones, Tempy Jones, and ?Fetney Jones. 1065 Ancestry World Tree Project: "Andresen/Herbst," has additional information on these Jones. 1066
Lindsey Clifford, a farmer, first appeared in the Harrison County federal census in 1840. 1067 In 1853, Lindsey and Nancy sold their interest in the estate of Lewis Jones, "Lewis Jones being the father of the said Nancy Clifford." 1068 In 1860, Lindsey and children Henry, Thomas, John and Sarah were living in the Warsaw area of Gallatin County, Kentucky. 1069 Apparently Lindsey and family moved from Harrison County to Gallatin County sometime after the 1850 federal census and before their daughter Sarah was born in Gallatin County, Kentucky, 1 March 1852. 1070 Gallatin County is in northern Kentucky, bordering on the Ohio River. I could not find Lindsey and family in the 1870 census and only one of Lindsey's children (Thomas) in the 1880 federal census for Kentucky.

219. SARAH5 ANN CLIFFORD
( James4,
Charles3,
James2,
unknown Clifford1);
born 7 August 1792; died 30 August 1881; married GEORGE W. SHRUM; born 5 May 1790; died 13 January 1860. Both George and Sarah are buried in Fort Palmer Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. 1083
In 1820, George and Sarah and presumably their first two children were enumerated in Fairfield Township. 1084 In 1850, George, Sarah and family were in Ligonier Township. 1085 In 1860, Sarah, now a widow and listed as a farmer, was with some of her family in Ligonier Township. 1086 In 1880, Sarah, now age 87, was living with her daughter Mary A. Shrum in Ligonier Township; also in the household was Mary (presumably) Shrum "granddaughter," born circa 1861. 1087 I can not place her. There was also a Matthew Little, born circa 1858, farmer, in the household in 1880, with his wife Ida Little, born circa 1858.
George W. Shrum was a son of Johannes Jacob George Shrum (born 1763, died 11 February 1818) and Catherine (Marchand) Shrum (born 8 March 1767, died 1836 or April 1841). 1088 George W. was a farmer in Ligonier Township and was a veteran of the War of 1812. 1089 For more information on Shrums, see end note #1890.

Shrum, born December 1860.1091 This Mary A. Shrum was living with Mary Ann Shrum (and Mary Ann's mother, Sarah) in Ligonier Township in 1870.1092 I can not place Mary A. Shrum. Possibly she was a daughter of Johnston Shrum (#585), who married Nancy Breniser, but if the dates are correct, Johnston died 1859.

Elizabeth (Myers) Breniser was a sister of Catherine Myers who married Edward Clifford (#236).1094 I have no information on children of Johnston and Nancy Shrum. Also in the household in 1860 1098 was a John Shrum, age 11. Sarah would have been too old to have been his mother. The 1830 federal census for George and Sarah, Fairfield County, suggests they might have had another daughter, born before 1830. 1099
220. SARAH5 WHITSETT
( Mary4 Clifford,
Charles3,
James2,

born circa 1775 in Pennsylvania; died circa 1848 in Fayette County, Indiana. On 6 February 1792 in Bourbon County, Kentucky; 1100 she married SAMUEL BELL; born circa November 1767 in Pennsylvania; died 20 March 1843 in Fayette County, Indiana. 1101 By 1826, Samuel and Sarah and family were living in Fayette County, Indiana. 1102

| John W. Bell; born circa 1799 in Kentucky; married (first) Sarah G. Barnes; married (second) Nancy Ralston (either this Nancy or third wife, Nancy Shields, was born circa 1815 in Pennsylvania); married (third) Nancy Shields. In 1850, John, Nancy, and children were living in Jennings Township, Fayette County, Indiana, where John W. was enumerated as a farmer.1103 Also in the household in 1850 were Samuel Cook, born circa 1839 in Indiana, Mary Ann Kirby, born circa 1827 in Indiana, Minerva Kirby, born circa 1850 in New York, and Thomas Ward, born circa 1815 in Kentucky. (Note that Sarah (Whitsett) Bell's brother, Charles Whitsett, who lived in Fayette County, Indiana, had a child Mary Jane Whitsett, born circa 1825 in Indiana, and she married George Kirby; but these Kirbys are accounted for in the 1850 federal census-see under Charles Whitsett, #??). Children of John W. Bell listed in the 1850 federal census (by which wife or wives not known): (1) Sarah E. Bell. The census taker reported William and Emily as "Laire," whereas all the children were listed as "Lair." Others listed in the household in 1850, all presumed to be children of William, probably some by Rachel as well as Emily (all born in Indiana): (1) Rachel Lair, born circa 1831; (2) Osa Piper (middle name, married name?) born circa 1777 in Pennsylvania; died 12 October 1833; buried in Downtown Cemetery, Springfield, Clark County, Ohio; on 10 December 1795, she married GRIFFITH FOOS (the name was also spelled Foose); 1106 born March 1772 in Pennsylvania; died 5 May 1859 in Cincinnati, Ohio; buried in Greenmont Cemetery, Springfield, Ohio. 1107 On 23 October 1834, Griffith married Nancy Winans, born 31 January 1798 in New Jersey; she died 11 February 1858 in Ohio. 1108
In 1824, Griffith and Elizabeth were living in Clark County, Ohio. 1109 Griffith built a hotel, known as Foos Tavern, in an area that was to become Springfield, Ohio. 1110 In 1850, Griffith, second wife Nancy, and their child Louisa, born circa 1838, were living in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio. 1111 Griffith Foos' 1859 will mentions eight children (names not known-I have not seen the will) and nephews Nelson Foos and Gustavus S. Foos of Ohio. 1112 There is a biography of Griffith Foos appearing in Mad River News and Clark County Journal, 6 May 1859 issue. 1113

born 1784 in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; died 1817; on 28 December 1803, 1115 she married BURWELL BROWN MILLS; died 1843 in Ohio. 1116 Burwell remarried after Nancy (Clifford) Mills died. Burwell, who was raised by relatives in Kentucky, was the youngest son of James and [-?-] (Burwell) Mills of Halifax County, Virginia. 1117
Census data indicate that Burwell and Nancy (Whitsett) Mills moved from Kentucky to Ohio sometime between 1812, when their daughter Caroline was born in Kentucky and 1814, when their son Joseph was born in Ohio.

| Harriet Hall; born circa 1817 in Kentucky; probably deceased by the time of the 1880 federal census. married Jacob Lair; born circa 1806 in Kentucky. Although the names Lair and Lail might have been used interchangeably for some of the early Kentucky families, this does not seem to be the case with Jacob Lair. The Lail genealogies do not mention this Jacob; and his name is also spelled Lair in the 1850 and 1880 federal censuses. In 1850, Jacob, Harriet and family were living in Richland Township, Clinton County, Ohio, where Jacob was enumerated as a carpenter.1122 In 1880, Jacob, now enumerated as a farmer, and apparently second wife Nancy [-?-], born 1808 in Indiana, were living by themselves in Wilmington Township, Clinton County, Ohio.1123 Children of Jacob and Harriet listed in the 1850 federal census (all born in Ohio): (1) Huldah Lair, born circa 1839; (2) Margaret E.
