719. THOMAS6 GILSON CLIFFORD (called Gil)
( James5,
Charles4,
Charles3,
James2,
unknown Clifford1);
born 1861; died 1899 in Derry, Pennsylvania; married ANNA [—?—]; born 1867 in Pennsylvania. 2343 In 1880, Gilson, single, was living in the household of his mother, Matilda Clifford, in Lockport, where he was listed as a laborer. 2344
LATE NEWS PARAGRAPHED.
Mrs. Annie Clifford and her two daughters of Conemaugh are visitng Engineer Ed. Clifford of 1812 Tenth avenue.—Altoona Mirror, 20 August 1906.
After the death of Gilson, Anna married John R. Anderson of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, born circa 1877 in Sweden. 2345 In 1900, "Annie" was living in East Conemaugh, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, with children Erma (called Elmira in the 1900 federal census; also spelled Irma) 2346 and Jean Clifford. Besides Annie, Erma and Jean (all born in Pennsylvania), a George Harmer (boarder), born February 1879 in Pennsylvania, and a William Rigne (boarder), born March 1868, were enumerated in the household in 1900. 2347 In 1910, Anna and second husband John R. Anderson were living in East Conemaugh with Anna and Gilson's children, who were reported as stepdaughters of Anna's second husband John R. Anderson. Lacy Lewis writes that Gilson married Annie Anderson. 2348 Either this was a mistake, as I suspect, or Anna's maiden name was Anderson as well as marrying an Anderson. In 1920, "Annie B.," now a widow (for the second time), was living in the household of her daughter Erma and her husband, Walter S. Ross, and family in East Taylor Township, Cambria County, Pennsylvania. 2349
Thomas Gilson Clifford was also a railroad engineer. According to Lacy Lewis: 2350
Gill Clifford - also an engineer on the PRR and youngest of Matilda and James Clifford (children), and also tooted his engine whistle as he passed Lockport, while his mother lived - it made her so happy and proud. He married a girl named Anna Anderson [apparently Anderson was the name of Anna's second husband, not her maiden name] from Johnstown and lived there and had one daughter, Jean. Edith Bowers, our friend in Pittsburgh, was from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and knows Jean and worked with her at one time there for the PRR. Gill died early and his wife remarried and I lost track of them
In 1893, Hugh M. and his brother Thomas Gilson purchased a Derry, Pennsylvania, lot for $90.00 from the Peoples Saving Bank, Pittsburgh. 2351 In late 1899, Gilson died in debt. Hugh M. Clifford then sold his half share of the lot to Annie Clifford for $10.00. 2352 According to a 10 March 1900 Westmoreland County deed: 2353
Whereupon it appearing manifest unto the Court aforesaid, that the personal estate of Thomas G. Clifford deceased, was not sufficient to pay his debts. It was considered and ordered by the said Court on the second day of January A. D. one thousand nine hundred (1900) that the real estate of the said decedent be sold according to the prayer of the petitioner
The same deed reports that Anna Clifford's Derry, Pennsylvania, lot was then auctioned at a public sale; the high bidder was a C. B. Hollingsworth, who purchased the lot for $26.00.

John W. Romick. a retired farmer, died yesterday at the home of his daughter, Mrs Charles Palmer, 712 Archer avenue. 728. JAMES6 EDWARD CLIFFORD
( Joseph5,

unknown Clifford1);
born 9 January 1859 in the Wheeling, Virginia (now West Virginia), area; died 6 October 1946; on 7 February 1893, 2393 he married CECELIA (also CELIA) M. KELLER; born 16 November 1869 in Fort Wayne, Indiana; died 14 April 1926. 2394 Cecelia was a daughter of Sebastian Keller of Fort Wayne. In 1900, Charles Keller, "brother-in-law," born August 1885, was living with the family. 2395 In 1920, still in Fort Wayne, Anna Mouper, age 46, "sister-in-law," was also living with the family. 2396
James Edward Clifford was raised in Allen County, Indiana. Sometime in the 1880s, he and brother Joseph went into the charcoal business on a large scale. 2397 James supervised the manufacturing and Joseph the retailing, which was located initially in Cleveland; subsequently, other retail yards were established in Cincinnati, Buffalo, and, in 1902, Fort Wayne, Indiana, at which time the business expanded to include wood and coal. The well-known business in Fort Wayne was called Clifford Brothers Coal Company, and encompassed a city block. James and his son Robert were Clifford genealogists, as is Robert's daughter Mary Ann Cottrell (#2050).

730. JAMES6 MCELROY
( Sarah5 Menoher,
Jane4 Clifford,
Charles3,
James2,
unknown Clifford1);
born 8 December 1814; died 21 December 1908; buried in Antiochian Village Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania; married SUSANAH BARR, 2401 born 9 March 1818; died 14 October 1907; buried in Antiochian Village Cemetery. 2402
In some censuses, the name of James's wife is spelled Susan, but since James was the census enumerator for Fairfield Township in 1860 and spelled the name Susanah, I consistently used that spelling-even though her name is "Susan" on her stone. In 1870, a Mary Barr, age 89, "m" was also in the family; 2403 she was also in the family in 1850. 2404 She would be Susanah's mother. According to a 1997 Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, query, 2405 James was in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1862. But this needs confirmation. In 1880, the family was in Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where James was enumerated as a farmer. 2406 In 1900, James, "Susan" and daughter Sarah were still living in Fairfield Township. 2407

| Sarah McElroy; born 1840 (but see next); died 1915. Sarah was still living with her parents in 1880;2410 her birth year reported in this census would calculate to being born circa 1845. In 1900, still living with her parents in Fairfield Township, she was reported born June 1852.2411 In 1910, she was living with her brother James T. McElroy and family in Westmoreland County and was reported age 68 (born 1842).2412 Sarah is buried in Antiochian Village Cemetery, Fairfield Township.2413 Sarah's name and the dates "1840-1915" are on the stone that also has the names of her brother James T. McElroy and James T.'s wife, Rebecca J. McElroy.

Known child:
(a) J. McElroy Garman, born October 1879.2414 Elizabeth's stone reads: "Lizzie Garman McElroy, dau. of J. and S., died 6 June 1890, age 25 yrs, 25 days." This would calculate to being born in 1865 instead of the circa 1845 as reported in the 1860 federal census. In 1865, her mother, Susannah, would have been age circa 47. Also, if Elizabeth was born in 1865, she would have only been 14 when her known child was born in 1879. Probably the "age 25 yrs" is an error-should have been "age 45 yrs."
