ROBERT6 POMEROY REED (Charles5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 8 May 1826; died 2 November 1857; buried in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana County, Pennsylvania; married LYDIA KELLY on 20 August 1853. Robert P. Reed was a teacher and a noted singer. After the death of Robert, Lydia Reed married Samuel Trimble and moved to Colorado Springs, Iowa.2496

Reed, born circa 1912 in Oregon.

In 1900. the family was in Colockem Township, Chalan, Washington (1A), with two yongest children (John and Grace), where Charles was farming. In 1909, the family was in Malaga, Washington.2503

In 1920 Louis, Bessie and daughter (1) Steleva Reed, born circa 1908 in Oregon, were living in Cline Falls Township, Deschutes County, Oregon, where Louis was listed as a farmer.2504 In 1930, Louis A., Bessie and son (2) Marshall A. Reed, born circa 1920 in Oregon, were living in Montgomery Township, Crock County, Oregon, where Louis was still farming.2505 Was Louis named for Louis Agassiz (1807-1873), the famous nineteenth century scientist, born in Switzerland, who came to the United States in 1846. Many of Louis Agassiz's achievements were in systematics, paleontology and glaciology.
  1504 iv. Minnie Maud Reed; born September 1877, died 22 January 1904; married, 11 March 1899, Elliott Balch; born September 1860. In 1900, the couple lived Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington, (page 5B), where Ellis (sic) was farming. No children in 1900.

766. CYNTHIA6 REED (Charles5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 18 May 1842 in Pennsylvania (twin); still alive in 1909; on 13 August 1861, she married JOSEPH R. SMITH; born 23 November 1816 in Pennsylvania; died 23 February 1907; buried in Oakland Cemetery, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.

Cynthia was a teacher. See Lytle (1909) for stories about these Smiths.2507 In 1880, Joseph, Cynthia and all children were living in Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, where Joseph was enumerated as an editor. In 1900, Cynthia and children Jessie, Margaret, Horace and Olive were living in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Cynthia was listed as a widow; this conflicts with Lytle (1909) information, which reports Joseph not dying until 19072508 I

In 1920 and 1930, Bessie and her sister Blanch, both single, were living with their brother Horace in Jeannette, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
  1508 ii. Margaret Blanch Smith; born 19 February 1871. She was living with her brother Horace and sister Bessie in 1920 and 1930.
  1509 iii. Olive Boyle Smith (twin); born 29 May 1874; married Joel I. Hubbard; born circa 1882 in Missouri. In 1900, Olive, single and still living with her mother, was enumerated as a stenographer. Known child from the 1920 and 1930 federal censuses, when they were living in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Joel was enumerated as an inspector in a steel mill: (1) Horace J. Hubbard, born circa 1909.2509
  1510 iv. Horace Smith (twin); born 29 May 1874. In 1900, single and still living with his mother, Horace was a druggist. In 1920, he was head of household, single, druggist, living with his sisters Bessie and Blanch. In 1930, still in Jeannette with his sisters, he was enumerated as owning a drug store.2510



768. JAMES6 HARVEY REED (Charles5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 8 March 1846; died after 1909; married EVA S. KNIGHT on 9 October 1879. The family eventually moved to Ellensburg, Kittitas County, Washington; he was a railroad engineer.2511

According to Lytle (1909), he was editor of the Bremerton News (Washington). In 1920, the family was in Bremerton, Kitsap County, Washington, where Edgar was enumerated as a real estate dealer.2512 In 1930, Edgar. Minnie and son Elsworth (?Stuart) were living in Seattle, King County, Washington; no occupation was listed for Edgar Gale.2513 Children reported in the 1920 federal census (all born in Washington): (1) Evelyn Gale, born circa 1905; (2) Franklin Gale, born circa 1907; (3) ?Margarurite Gale, born circa 1909; and (4) Elsworth Gale, born circa 1913; listed as Stuart in 1930, when he was enumerate as a fireman on a freight boat.

After the death of her mother, Margaret lived with her aunt Sally (Reed) Lytle (#267).2516 Margaret then married THOMAS GILL; born circa 1828 in Ireland. In 1880, Thomas, Margaret and family were living in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2517

After her mother's death, Maria lived with her aunt Lavinia (Reed) Lytle (#271). Maria then married GEORGE W. KELLY, born circa 1836 in Pennsylvania. In 1880, the family was living in Derry Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where George was listed as a laborer.2521 After Maria's death, George Kelly married Jane Taylor and had six more children.2522

James was a harness maker as was his father. No information on children.

RACHEL6 REED (Robert5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 7 April 1834 in Pennsylvania; died 9 March 1901; on 29 September 1859, she married JONAS PIFER; born 4 June 1837 in Pennsylvania; died 24 July 1894.2524 In 1880, the family was living in Beaver Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, where Jonas was enumerated as a laborer.

Known children in 1910 were2525 (1) Florence Pifer, born circa 1892; (2) Helen Pifer, born circa 1901; (3) Alice Pifer, born circa 1901; and (4) Virginia Pifer, born circa 1908.
  1538 iii. Hugh Milien Pifer; born May 1865; married Carrie Hewitt; born circa 1869.   1540 v. John F. Pifer (twin); born 25 July 1867; married Matilda (also Mathilda) Smith; born circa 1873 in Pennsylvania; they lived in Currensville, Pike Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania. Known children in 1910 were2529 (1) Josephine Pifer, born circa 1896; (2) Ruby I. Pifer, born circa 1898; (3) Jessie Pifer (daughter), born circa 1906, married [-?-] Hewes (in 1930 she, but not her husband, was living with her parents); (4) Katherine Pifer, born circa 1908; and (5) Jean Pifer, born circa 1910. The family was still in Currensville in 1920, where John was enumerated as a driller of oil wells.2530

BEATTY; born 6 July 1830 in Pennsylvania; died 25 June 1885. Joseph was in the Civil War.2531 In 1880, the family was living in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where Lorenzo was enumerated as a laborer.2532

In 1910 and 1920, John and Winnifred, no children, were living in Vandergrift, where, in 1920, John was enumerated as a railroad engineer.2533

Sarah (Reed) Pifer helped John Pomeroy Lytle write "The Reed Family."2534 In 1880, John, Sarah and children were living in Winslow Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, where John was listed as a farmer. In 1900, John and Sarah were living by themselves in Washington Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.2535

In 1910, the family was in Falls Creek Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.2536 In 1930, Charles, Nettie and children Maude and Charles were still in Jefferson County, where Charles was enumerated as a bookkeeper in a brick plant.2537 Known children in 1910 (all born in Pennsylvania) were (1) Orvetta M. Pifer, born circa 1895; (2) Maude H. Pifer, born circa 1896 (she was still living with her parents in 1930); (3) Blanch Pifer, born circa 1898; and (4) Charles M. Pifer (Jr.), born circa 1909 (in 1930, Charles, still with his parents, was listed as a laborer in a brick plant).
  1547 ii. Ella Mary Pifer; born 13 March 1874 in Pennsylvania; married, 13 June 1894, Amos C. ("A. C.") Powell; born 25 March 1868 in Pennsylvania; he was a graduate of Grove City College, Mercer County, Pennsylvania; then to Allegheny Theological Seminary. A. C. Powell was a minister in the Presbyterian Church, one being in Marion Center, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. The family also lived in Upshur County and Marshall County, West Virginia. Children of A.   1548 iii. Vincent King Pifer; born 29 January 1876 in Pennsylvania; married, 9 October 1901, Adah Blanchard Richardson; born circa 1877 in Pennsylvania. Known child was (1) Marjorie R. Pifer, born circa 1909 in Pennsylvania.2539 In 1910, Vincent, Adah and Marjorie were living in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. In 1930, Vincent, Adah and Marjorie were living in Hampton, Virginia (page 17B), where V. King was enumerated as a reporter for a newspaper; Adah was enumerated as a public school teacher and daughter Marjorie, still with her parents, as a stenographer in a jewelery store. Vincent was named for the doctor who delivered him. He was editor of The County Review of Currensville, Pennsylvania, a publication with a "liberal outlook."

Children of Richard and Martha Ann (Reed) McClure:

  1549 i. Robert7 Reed McClure; born 1870; died 27 April 1900; "buried a few paces from Rev. D. S. Lytle's grave, who died 8 November 189?" (I can not place D. S. Lytle). Robert married Alice Elliott, a graduate of Westminster College (New Wilmington, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania). The "Reed Family History" would indicate Robert McClure was a gifted child. He was in college at age 12; after college went to Allegheny Theological Seminary; then to India as a missionary. He died at age 30 of a fever-but I do not know whether in India or after returning to the United States.
  1550 ii. Joseph Hamilton McClure; married Margaret Pumroy. He was a physician in Ohio.
  1551 iii. Laura Belle McClure; married W. M. Good.

SARAH6 JANE LYTLE (Sarah5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 6 February 1837; died 6 May 1869; buried in Elderton United Presbyterian graveyard, ?Plum Creek Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania; married, 2 October 1860, JAMISON MCCREIGHT; born 26 February 1837.2541 After Sarah Jane died in 1869, Jamison McCreight married Sarah Reed (#774), a daughter of James and Mary (Piper) Reed. Hence Sarah Jane Lytle and Sarah Reed would have been first cousins once removed.

The family moved to Atwood, Cowanshannock Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, then to Decker's Point, Grant Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, then to Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania. In 1910, the family was living in Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania.2543 William was in the Civil War. In 1920, he was living in a Veteran's home in Dayton, Ohio.2544 In 1930, Jane E. Lytle, widow, was living with her married daughter, Gem Irene Lytle (her maiden and married name) and her family in Franklin County, Ohio.2545

Calvert, groceries salesman, born circa 1880 in Pennsylvania, living in Altoona, Pennsylvania, with wife Clara W. [-?-], born circa 1889 and children Mary Calvert, born circa 1922, and Frederick Calvert born circa 1929.2548 Since this 1930 census lists Warren as being age 37 at the time of marriage (that would be 1917) probably he was the husband of our Edna Lytle, and Clara [-?-] was his second wife.

Jane Elizabeth was a daughter of James and Jane (Patterson) McKelvey. See Chart 2: "Some Clifford-Menoher-McKelvey relationships," and the section "James and Jane (Patterson) McKelvey and their family."

Robert Adams was a Civil War veteran and was a prisoner in Libby Prison, Richmond, Virginia. Robert became a County Commissioner in Indiana County, Pennsylvania.2549

In 1870, the family lived in White Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania (census page 427), where Robert was farming. By 1880, the family was living in Concord Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, where Robert was enumerated as a farmer.2550

After marrying Mary, James, Mary and family lived in White Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, in 1880 (page 46)-probably this was also where James lived when Martha was still alive. Also in the family in 1880, was James's mother Marjorie (Margaret) Adams, widow, enumerated with heart disease.

James was a Civil War veteran and in several battles including the Battle of the Wilderness; he was captured and spent time in Libby Prison and Bell Island Prison (both in Richmond, Virginia).2552

Adams [Jr.], born circa 1908 in Iowa. In 1930, still with his parents, Joseph was enumerated as a truck driver for a stove works.
  1576 ii. William Ross Adams; born 19 January 1861 in Pennsylvania; married, 4 May 1893, Effie Miller; born July 1866 in Ohio. In 1900, William R., Effie, and son (1) Frank M. Adams, born January 1896 in Colorado (died before the 1910 federal census), were living in Election District 16, Carbon County, Wyoming (page 7A), where William R. was farming. In 1910, William and Effie were in Denver, Ward 3, Colorado, where William was a teamster. In 1920, William and Effie were living in Charleston, Kitsap, Washington, where William had a job as a stevedoor in the Navy Yards (page 14A). By 1930, Effie was a widow, living back in Carbon County (Rawlings), Wyoming (page 8A), where she was a house servant in the household of Ole Peterson.

In 1900, the family was in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, where Elijah had a restaurant and confectionary store.2562 There is a 22 July 1901 letter pertaining to genealogical matters from Elijah J. Reed to his cousin (and my grandfather) Hugh McCune Clifford-see under Hugh McCune Clifford (#718).2563

In 1880, the family was living in Washington Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania,2572 two households from Robert's parent, John and Lavinia (Reed) Lytle, and next door to a Samuel (age 49) and Nancy Fleming (age 42). Robert and Sarah eventually moved to Altoona, where they were members of the First United Presbyterian Church of Altoona.2573 In 1930, Sarah Lytle, widow, was living with her son Frank E. Lytle in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Children known from the federal censuses (all born in Pennsylvania): (1) Homer E. Lytle, born circa 1915; (2) Rachel Lytle; and (3) Evelyn Lytle.

Lavinia Agnes Lytle; born 2 August 1887 in Pennsylvania; married, 4 September 1907, in Chambersville, Rayne Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, Edward Payson Caldwell; born 13 August 1864 in Pennsylvania; died 3 February 1964 in Arlington, Virginia. In 1930, the family was living in East Mahoning Township, Indiana County, where Edward was enumerated as a farmer.2579 Known children in 1930 (all born in Pennsylvania) were (1) Debora Caldwell, born circa 1914; (2) Richard Caldwell, born 3 March 1917, died August 1982, a resident of Indiana, Indiana County, Pennsylvania;2580 (3) Elizabeth Caldwell, born circa 1919; (4) Ruth Ann Caldwell, born circa 1922, married James R. Brilhart;2581 (5) Gladys Caldwell, born circa 1924; (6) Bessie Caldwell, born circa 1926; and (7) Edward Caldwell, born circa 1927.
  1614 v. Bessie May Lytle; born 9 October 1889. She was a teacher in Indiana, Pennsylvania. In 1920, she and sister Sarah, both single, were the only children living their parents. Both were enumerated as school teachers.
  1615 vi. Sarah Jane Lytle; born 5 May 1892. In 1920, Sarah (head of household) and sister Bessie, both single, were the only children living their parents. Both were enumerated as school teachers.
  1616 vii. Grace Marie Lytle; born 4 February 1894; died 1918; buried in Plumcreek Presbyterian Cemetery, Washington Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.



814. MARTHA6 ANN LYTLE (Lavinia5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 10 August 1856 or 1857; died 30 March 1905; buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. On 27 June 1887, she married MCCLOUD MILLIGAN BRADY (#1182), born January 1863 in Pennsylvania. Martha was a school teacher.2582 McCloud was a son of James Brady and a grandson of Hugh and Mary (Reed) Brady (#262). Hence Martha and McCloud were first cousins, once removed. In 1900, the family was living in Port Vue, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (page 14B) with children Clara T., John R. and Daisy L. Lytle. Martha was a school teacher.

815. JANE6 AGNES REED (Marshall5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 2 or 27 September 1845 in Pennsylvania; married JOSEPH P. CLARK; born 16 August 1841 in Pennsylvania. In 1880, the family was living in Petersburg, Huntindon County, Pennsylvania (page 94) where Joseph was listed as a carpenter. In 1910, Joseph P. (enumerated as a farmer) and Jane A. were living in Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, with two grandchildren, William and Matilda Grubb.2584 Joseph Clark was in the Civil War.2585

  1621 ii. Matilda (Tillie) Clark; born 20 February 1869 in Pennsylvania; married, 14 April 1891, George Long; born 5 February 1870 in Pennsylvania. In 1900, the family was living in Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County. In 1920, the family was living in Vandergrift, Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, where George was enumerated as working in a steel mill. Known children (all born in Pennsylvania) by 1920 were2587 (1) Clark Long, born October 1891, enumerated as working as a laborer in a foundry in 1920; (2) Charles Long, born October 1896; (3) Alice Long, born April 1898; and (4) Agnes Long, born circa 1903; and (4) Nell Long, born circa 1914.
  1622 iii. James Marshall Clark; born 28 January 1871; married, 25 November 1897, Lottie Snyder; born 29 January 1878.
  1623 iv. Aseneth Clark; born 31 March 1873; married, 9 September 1896, Charles Miller; born 6 February 1868; they lived in Vandergrift, Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
  1624 v. Frank Clark; born 11 November 1874; died 30 March 1875; buried at Briek Church (location not known, possibly Red Brick Church, Sewickley Township), Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.
  1625 vi. McKinley Clark; born 20 April 1876. McKinley was a plumber in Aliquippa, Hopewell Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania.
  1626 vii. Charles Vincent Clark; born 27 September 1878; married, 16 August 1905, Pearl Senter; born circa 1879 in Ohio. In 1900, Charles was living with his sister Matilda and her husband George Long in Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2588 In 1910, Charles, Pearl and children were in Piqua Township, Miami County, Ohio (page 15A), where Charles was listed as a heater in a rolling mill; in 1920, the family was in White Eyes Township, Coshocton County, Ohio (page 4B), where Charles was a farmer; in 1930 Charles and Pearl were living in New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas County, Ohio (page 21B), where Charles was back to being a heater in a steel mill. Children known from the federal censuses (both born in Ohio): (1) Edith A. Clark, born circa 1907; and (2) Velma Clark, born circa 1910.
  1627 viii. Adda Reed Clark; born 2 November 1880; married, 1 March 1904, Albert Martin; born 2 November 1876. In 1920 the family was living in Washington Township, Westmoreland County, where Albert was enumerated as a farmer.2589 In 1930, the family was living in Kiskiminitas Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where Albert was still farming.2590 Known children (all born in Pennsylvania) from the 1920 and 1930 federal censuses were (1) Marie Martin, born circa 1908; (2) Ann Martin, born circa 1911; and Iola Martin, born circa 1916.
  1628 ix. Irvin Ross Clark; born 6 March 1885.2591 In 1910, he was living with his sister Matilda and her husband George Long.2592



817. REBECCA6 AGNES REED (Marshall5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 13 March 1848 in Pennsylvania; died 3 January 1902; on 4 October 1866, she married JAMES H. BLAIR; born 1 March 1841 in Pennsylvania; died 29 November 1907. Rebecca and James are buried in Belton, Cass County, Missouri.2593

James H. Blair was a son of John Peoples Blair, born circa 1804, and Susanna (Ogden) Blair, born circa 1812;2594 in 1850 John and Susan were living in Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, with children Alexander Blair (age 15), Hannah Blair (age 13), Samuel Blair (age 12), James H. Blair (age 10), John Q. A. Blair (age 7), Jane Blair (age 5) and Susan Blair (age 2).

In 1880, James H., Agnes? and children Charles and Margaret were living in Derry, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.2595

  1629 i. James7 Franklin Blair; born 4 July 1868 in Missouri; married, 15 October 1891, Agnes Green; born 31 August 1871 in Missouri. In 1920 and 1930, James F., Agnes, and family were living in Belton, Mount Pleasant Township, Cass County, Missouri, where James was a cashier in a bank.2596 Children of James and Agnes listed in the 1920 and 1930 federal censuses (all born in Pennsylvania) were (1) Nadine Blair, born circa 1898; Bernice Blair, born circa 1902 (not listed in the 1930 census); (3) Mary Blair, born circa 1905 (not listed with the family in 1930); (4) Frances Agnes Blair, born circa 1910; and (5) James F. Blair, born circa 1910. There is a James F. Blair III, president of the Bank of Belton (2002).2597 Is he a son of the James F. Blair, born circa 1910?
+   1630 ii. Gertrude Lawrence Blair; born 16 August 1871; married Henry Henderson.
  1631 iii. Charles Reed Blair; born 11 June 1875 in Missouri; married, 19 October 1898, Susie Ella March; born 19 October 1877 in Missouri. Charles R. Blair was a farmer. The family lived in Cass County, Missouri. In 1920, Charles, Susie and family were living in the Belton, Missouri area, where Charles was enumerated as a farmer.2598 In 1930, Charles and Susan E. were living alone in Belton, Missouri, no occupation given.2599 Children of Charles and Susie reported from the federal censuses (all born in Pennsylvania) were (1) James Wallace Blair, born circa 1901; (2) Charles Lawrence Blair, born circa 1903; and (3) Julian (John) Blair, born circa 1906.

818. JAMES6 MCKELVEY REED (Marshall5 Reed, Sarah4 Clifford, Charles3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 25 May 1850; died 28 December 1903; on 27 December 1876, he married NANCY J. MACK; born 2 January 1855; died December 1925.2601 In 1880 James and family and James's father, Marshall Reed, were living in Ligonier Township, Westmoreland County, where James was enumerated as a farmer.2602 James, Nancy and family were still in Ligonier Township in 1900 and 1910.2603

Nancy's parents were Joseph and Elizabeth (McCrory) Mack.2604 One of Nancy’s nephews was John Sephus Mack, President of the GC Murphy Company (when I was growing up in western Pennsylvania in the 1930s and 40s, it was a flourishing five and ten cent store chain with stores in many towns and cities of the eastern United States. In 1985, the chain was sold to the Ames Company, which closed the last of its 467 stores in 2002). One of Nancy's sisters was Flora Belle Mack, born November 1866. She married Clarke Nathaniel McKelvey,2605 who was probably a descendant (grandson?) of Nathaniel and Lettitia (Clark) McKelvey-see the section "James and Jane (Patterson) McKelvey and their family."

  1634 ii. Charles Clifford Reed; born 9 March 1880 or 10 February 1880;2607 died 13 March 1912; married Celia Brown of Fort Palmer, Fairfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. She died 17 January 1929. They had two children: (1) Mary Louise Reed, married Wilbert Hoefling, died June 1982; and (2) Jane Clifford Reed, born 15 April 1912 in Boise, Idaho, died 1996.2608 Charles graduated from Valparaiso University and the University of Michigan; he practiced law in Boise, Idaho
  1635 iii. Albert Mack Reed; born 10 January 1883; died 5 February 1906. Albert was a teacher in Westmoreland County before entering Valparaiso University; he died 10 weeks before he would have graduated.
  1636 iv. Elizabeth Agnes Reed; born 26 September 1886; died 18 September 1903 of pleurisy.
  1637 v. Carrie Lenore Reed; born 18 September 1888 in Pennsylvania; died 12 May 1944; married Alexander Booth; born 4 August 1888 in Scotland;2609 died November 1966, a resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.2610 They had two children (both born in Pennsylvania): (1) Reed Booth, born circa 1915; and (2) Joseph F. Reed, born circa 1915-1920.2611 According to Lytle (1909), Carrie was a public school teacher in Reed's Station, White Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. In 1920, when the family was living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, her husband, Alexander, was listed as a teacher in a ?manual training school.2612
  1638 vi. Flora Alice Reed; born 2 January 1892; died 27 February 1905 of typhoid.
  1639 vii. Paul Revere Reed; born 28 July 1895 in Pennsylvania; died 5 June 1948; married Lavadia Voskamp, born 1901 in Pennsylvania, died 1967; she was a daughter of Henry and Anna Marie (Riesmeyer) Voskamp. No, Paul Revere's famous ride was not 28 July, it was 18 April (1775). In 1930, the family was living in McKeesport, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where Paul was enumerated as a clerk.2613 As reported in the autobiography of his son Paul Revere, Jr. (see next paragraph), Paul was a graduate of Amherst, a lawyer and real estate agent, who eventually became a director of the GC Murphy store chain. Paul and Lavadia had five children:2614 (1) Paul Revere Reed, Jr., born 30 March 1928, died 18 March 2003; (2) Nancy Reed, married Lee Hummel; (3) Betsy Reed (4) Margie Reed; and (5) Peggy Reed.

The autobiography of Paul Revere Reed, Jr., In search of a better life, was finished shortly before his death in 2003. His friend Martha A. Mason reviewed, edited and prepared the book for the web. At present (2004), 6 of the 11 chapters are now online. Chapter 2 pertains to family history, with photos of ancestors and the Reed homestead near Ligonier, Pennsyvania.
