828. ANN6 MARIA WILLIAMSON (Charity5 Clifford, Charles4, John3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 1 March 1830; died 23 May 1918; married MAHLON FOX;2615 born 2 February 1832 in New Jersey; died 29 November 1899. Both Ann Maria and Mahlon are buried in the First Presbyterian Cemetery of Asbury, Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey.2616

In 1880, Mahlon, a farmer, and family were living in Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey.2617 Also living in the household in 1880, was Peter Fox, age 21, "nephew." He was probably the Peter Fox, born circa 1859, who in 1920 was enumerated in North Bergen Township, Hudson County, New Jersey with his wife Kate [-?-], born circa 1870 in New Jersey.2618 This Peter Fox, enumerated as a locomotive engineer, was born in New Jersey as were his parents. In 1900, Ann was living with his married son, Lewis, in Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey.

Children of Mahlon and Ann Maria (Williamson) Fox:2619

1640 i. John7 Fox; born circa 1859; died 1927; buried in First Presbyterian Cemetery of Asbury, Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey. John was "working on farm" at the time of the 1880 census.
1641 ii. Savilla (Jenny) Fox; died 19??; married A. B. (Burl) Chilson. Savilla is buried in First Presbyterian Cemetery of Asbury, Franklin Township, Warren County.
+   1642 iii. Lewis Clifford Fox; born August 1861; died 1927; married (first) Miriam Kay Kennedy; married (second) Carry L. [-?-].

829. CHARLES6 C. WILLIAMSON (Charity5 Clifford, Charles4, John3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 15 May 1832; died 3 February 1871; buried in Bethlehem Baptist Church, Hunterdon County, New Jersey; married HELENA [-?-].

Known child of Charles and Helena Williamson:

1643 i. Arabella7 Williamson; married [-?-] Kennedy. Their child was Miriam Kay Kennedy; born 1865 or 1866 in New Jersey; died 1920; married Lewis Clifford Fox; born in Asbury, Warren County, New Jersey. Lewis was a son of Mahlon and Ann Maria (Williamson) Fox (#828); hence Arabella and Lewis were first cousins once removed. Their children were (a) Mildred Arabella Fox, and (b) Charles Clifford Fox—see Anna Marie Williamson (#828) for details.

831. JOHN6 RITCHIE WILLIAMSON (Charity5 Clifford, Charles4, John3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 22 April 1837;2620 married MARY ELIZABETH CREVELING; born July 1839 in Pennsylvania.

In 1870, John (enumerated as a salesman) and Mary E. were living next door to John's parents in Union Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.2621 John, Mary E. and their four sons were still in Union Township in 1880, when John was enumerated as a farmer.2622 By 1900, only their son Joseph and his family were living with John R. and Mary E. in Union Township.2623 In 1910, John and Mary's son Charles [C.], widower, and his daughter Melba were living with John and Mary in Union Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey (page 3B). In 1920, John R. and Mary E., both in their eighties, were living by themselves, but next door to their son Joseph and his family in Union Township.2624 This was four dwellings from presumably the Clifford's Pattenburg house, occupied in 1920 by Harry and Anna B. (Williamson) Cowell (#1649) and their family, including Anna's mother, Bertha (Race) Williamson.2625

Children of John R. and Mary E. (Creveling) Williamson (the 1900 federal census reports Mary E. had five children, four living):2626

1644 i. Chester7 H. Williamson; born circa 1864 in New Jersey; married Carrie (probably Sidders); born circa 1869 in New Jersey. Known child was (1) Dorothy E. Williamson, born circa 1895. In 1920, the family was living in Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey, where Chester was listed as a school teacher and daughter Dorothy was listed as married but with no indication her surname was not Williamson.2627 In 1930, Chester and Carrie and Carrie's mother Sophia Sidders, born circa 1850, were still living in Phillipsburg and Chester was still a public school teacher.2628 There was another Chester H. Williamson, born circa 1888 in New Jersey, enumerated in 1930 in Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, with wife Emma, born circa 1894, and daughter Blanche E. Williamson, born circa 1921.2629 It is remotely possible that he was a son of Chester H. and Carrie Williamson. The 1930 federal census reported Carrie was married at age 20.
+   1645 ii. Charles C. Williamson; born circa 1866; married [-?-].
1646 iii. Watson S. Williamson; born circa 1869; married Sarah E. [-?-]; born circa 1872. One known child was J. Watson Williamson, born circa 1911; he married Leotta [-?-], born circa 1913. In 1930, Watson, Sarah, and son, Watson and his wife, were living in Phillipsburg Township, Warren County, New Jersey, where Watson (Sr.) was enumerated as a carpenter and son Watson was enumerated as an auto shop mechanic.2630
+   1647 iv. Joseph W. Williamson; born March 1871; married Amy [-?-].

834. JOSEPH6 B. WILLIAMSON (Charity5 Clifford, Charles4, John3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 2 January 1849 (or November 1850);2631 buried 18 February 1913; married BERTHA E. RACE: "October 21st [1875], in Washington, N. J., by Rev. S. E. Webster, Joseph Williamson and Bertha. Race, both of Hunterdon."2632 Bertha was born January 1848; buried 6 June 1934. Both Joseph and Bertha are buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.2633 In 1930, Bertha, a widow, was living with her daughter Anna B. Cowell and her children in Pattenburg, Union Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.2634

In 1850, a Bertha A. Race, born circa 1849, was living 10 dwellings from Joseph Williamson's parents in Bethlehem Township, Hunterdon County, in the household of George Race, born circa 1794 according to the 1850 census, but born 1825 according to his stone; Fanny Race, born circa 1827; Robert Race, born 1850; and Henrietta ?Hazeling, born circa 1842.2635 George and Fannie were probably the parents of Bertha. They are buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.2636

Joseph B. Williamson came into possession of the Clifford's Pattenburg homestead in 1876.2637 In 1880, Joseph, Bertha, son George, and Bertha's brother Austin Race, born circa 1859, were enumerated in Union Township (formerly part of Bethlehem Township), Hunterdon County,2638 presumably in the Pattenburg house. Joseph, Bertha and daughter Anna B. were still living in Union Township in 1900.2639 After Joseph's death in 1913, the Pattenburg house and property descended to his daughters Anna B. Cowell and Bertha Williamson. In 1920, Bertha (widow of Joseph B.) was living in presumably the Pattenburg house with her daughter Anna and Anna's husband Harry Cowell and their family.2640 In 1929, Anna Cowell and Bertha Williamson conveyed the homestead to Edward P. Hummer.2641 He was apparently not of our Clifford line. In 1930, Bertha was still living with daughter Anna Cowell.

Known children of Joseph and Bertha (Race) Williamson:2642

1648 i. George7 Williamson; born circa 1878;2643 buried 19 March 1888 in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County.
+   1649 ii. Anna Belle Williamson; born February 1882; married Harry A. Cowell, born circa 1882.
1650 iii. Bertha Williamson. Bertha was alive in 1929 when she and her sister Anna Cowell conveyed the Pattenburg homestead to Edward P. Hummer.2644
1651 iv. Agnes Williamson; born circa 1886; buried 12 January 1896 in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Alexandria Township, Hunterdon County. Anna Belle and Agnes were in the picture of the Clifford Pattenburg house, taken in the 1880s (see under George Clifford, #2).

846. JOSEPH6 W. CLIFFORD (Derrick5, Charles4, John3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born June 1845; buried in Pennington Presbyterian Churchyard, Mercer County, New Jersey, but there are no dates on his stone or they were unreadable; married (first), 31 August 1868 in Trenton, New Jersey, SARAH/SUSAN EVERINGTAR (Everington?); born circa 1845-1846; married (second), 13 April 1875, near Pennington, New Jersey, EMMA H. BLACKWELL; born August 1851;2645 died 28 November 1912; buried in Pennington Presbyterian Churchyard.2646

For both marriages, the "Returns of Marriages" lists Joseph's parents as Hoagland and Jane Clifford. The "Returns" list Sarah's parents as Aaron and Margaret Everingtar, and Emma's parents as Wilson and Jane Blackwell.2647 I can not connect Wilson Blackwell with Nehemiah Reeder Blackwell, who married Joseph's aunt Ann Clifford (#281). Wilson Blackwell, Jr., and wife Rhoda Jane Blackwell are buried in the Pennington Presbyterian Churchyard with their daughters Catherine Blackwell, Juliatte Blackwell, and Wilson Blackwell's second wife, Annie C. "widow."2648

Joseph Clifford was listed as age 4 in Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, in 1850, when Joseph was living with his father and Clifford grandparents.2649 Apparently Joseph's mother, Jane (Hazard) Clifford, died about a month after Joseph was born. In 1860 Joseph was enumerated in Hopewell Township, in the household of his aunt Elizabeth (Clifford) Perrine (#278) and her husband Henry. In 1870, Joseph was enumerated with first wife, listed as Susan (instead of Sarah), and son Charles in Hopewell Township.2650 In 1880, still in Hopewell Township, Joseph, a farmer, was enumerated with his second wife Emma H. [Blackwell], and their family.2651 Also living with the family in 1880 was Joseph's unmarried aunt Jane Clifford (#281). Joseph, Emma and their three children by Emma were still in Hopewell Township in 1900.2652

Possibly Emma Blackwell was related to the Nehemiah Reeder Blackwell who married Joseph's aunt, Ann Clifford (#275), but I can not place Emma Blackwell. There is no evidence that she was a daughter of Ann (Clifford) Blackwell. In 1850, a Liscomb Blackwell, age 32, and Susan Blackwell, age 37, and family were living three dwellings from where Joseph Clifford was living with his father and grandparents, Charles and Leah (Hoagland) Clifford. One of Liscomb and Susan's children was Emma R. Blackwell, but she was age 11 in 1850.2653

Known child of Joseph and Sarah/Susan (Evertington/Everingtar) Clifford:

1652 i. Charles7 Clifford; born circa 1868.2654 He was not with the family in 1900. Charles was baptized in the Pennington, Mercer County, New Jersey, Presbyterian Church on 22 August 1870 by Reverend D. R. Foster. His parents were listed as Joseph and Susan (instead of Sarah) Clifford,2655 and they were listed as Joseph and Susan in the 1870 federal census. In 1920, a Charles G. Clifford, born circa 1868 in New Jersey, and wife Melissa [-?-], born circa 1868 in Pennsylvania, were living in Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey, where Charles was listed as a machinist.2656

Known children of Joseph and Emma (Blackwell) Clifford:

1653 ii. Arthur Clifford; born July 1877. There was an Arthur Clifford, born circa 1878 in New Jersey, who in 1920 was living in Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. This Arthur, enumerated as a farmer, was born in New Jersey as was his parents. His wife was Abigail [-?-], born circa 1880 in New Jersey, and children Grace Clifford, born circa 1905 in New Jersey, and Warren Clifford, born circa 1907 in New Jersey.2657
1654 iii. Joseph Clifford; born May 1880.
1655 iv. Lydia Clifford; born April 1884.

856. WILLIAM6 MELLICK HARTPENCE (Jerome5 Hartpence, Elizabeth4 Clifford, John3, James2, unknown Clifford1); born 3 June 1837 in New Jersey; died 9 July 1889; married SARAH EMMA BEVIN; born 16 February 1842 in Pennsylvania; died 7 January 1938; she was a daughter of Lewis L. and Jane (Weller) Bevin. Both William and S. Emma are buried in the abandoned Weller Free Cemetery, Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey.2658

In 1860, William was enumerated as a school teacher in Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey, when still living with his parents.2659 In 1880, William, physician, and family were living in Oxford Township, Warren County.2660 William is listed as Dr. W. M. Hartpence on two of his children's stones.

Known children of William and Sarah Emma (Bevin) Hartpence (not all necessarily in order of birth):2661

1656 i. Emily Hartpence; born circa 1867; married [-?-] Cooke.
1657 ii. Lydia7 Adine Hartpence; born 2 July 1868; died 9 March 1869; buried in Weller Free Cemetery, Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey.
1658 iii. John R. Hartpence; born circa 1870.
1659 iv. Sadie Hartpence; born 6 December 1872; died 1 September 1873; buried in Weller Free Cemetery, Franklin Township, Warren County.
1660 v. Jane Hartpence; born circa 1873; married [-?-] Burns.
1661 vi. William Hartpence; born 19 December 1876; died 2 December 1880; buried in Weller Free Cemetery, Franklin Township, Warren County.
1662 vii. Ella Hartpence; born circa 1879; married [-?-] Quelch; buried in Weller Free Cemetery, Franklin Township, Warren County.
1663 viii. (tentative) Alanson Hartpence; born 1883; died 1946; buried in Weller Free Cemetery, Franklin Township, Warren County.
