1545. CORA⁷ MARGARET REED (Joseph⁶ Lorenzo Reed, Robert⁵ Reed, Sarah⁴ Clifford, Charles³, James², unknown Clifford¹); born 25 May 1868; married ENOCH L. SCHETNAM; born circa 1870 or circa 1885 in Norway.³³⁷⁴

In autumn of 1874, Cora had an affliction that caused blindness for about a month. Early in 1875 she started losing her hearing and by that summer had lost her hearing. She graduated from college (probably St. Olaf's College, in Northfield, Minnesota) and eventually became the supervisor of a school for the hearing-impaired.³³⁷⁵ Enoch Schetnam, a native of Norway, also became hearing-impaired (he had spinal meningitis); he published and edited the paper the West River Progress (Minnesota?).³³⁷⁶ In 1920, the family was living in Ziebach County, Illinois, where Enoch was enumerated as a farmer.³³⁷⁷

ANNA⁷ BELL LYTLE (William⁶ Marshall Reed Lytle, Sarah⁵ Reed, Sarah⁴ Clifford, Charles³, James², unknown Clifford¹); born 9 April 1870 in Pennsylvania; died 25 March 1936 in Michigan; married, 2 May 1894, SAMUEL CRAWFORD WISE in Altoona, Pennsylvania; he was born 25 March 1870 in Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania; died 25 March 1936 in Ann Arbor Michigan. Samuel was a son of Emanuel and Lucinda (Albright) Wise. Both Anna Bell and Samuel are buried in Forest View Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan.³³⁷⁸

In 1900 and 1910, Samuel and Anna Belle and family were living in the Altoona area, Blair County, Pennsylvania.³³⁷⁹ For several years, Samuel Crawford Wise worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. The family moved to Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, about 1914; where they were enumerated in 1930 (census page 12B).

William Howard Wise; born 18 July 1899; died 23 January 1983 in Lansing, Michigan; married, 11 February 1924, Marjorie (Peg) Ruth Le Veque; born 12 March 1900 in Menominee, Michigan; died 28 January 1983 (this would be five days after her husband died?) in Traverse City, Michigan. William, Marjorie and family lived for many years in East Lansing, Ingham County, Michigan, where in 1930, Willilam was listed as a lawyer (page 14A). Marjorie, a University of Michigan Phi Betta Kappa, was active in University of Michigan alumni affairs and served on its Alumnae Governing Board from 1949-1952. William Wise, a University of Michigan Law School graduate, was the first Municipal Judge for the City of East Lansing, Michigan. Their children: (1) William Lytle Wise, born in Michigan, married Jeanne Griffiths Nesbitt; and (2) Rosemary Jeanne Wise, born in Michigan.

Robert, a medical doctor (University of Michigan), was on the psychiatric staffs of the Michigan and New York State systems. Their children: (1) Janet Roberta Wise, born (private), married David Paul Bender, born (private); (2) Robert Woodrow Wise, born (private), married (first) Cynthia Elizabeth Moore, born (private), married (second) Claudia Haferkamp, born (private); and (3) Jeffrey Andrew Wise, born (private), married Kelly Jean Zimmer, born (private).
	2102	iv.	Isabelle Hutchinson Wise; born 18 January 1906; died 6 September 1997; married, 24 December 1936, Woodrow W. Morris; born 1 April 1913. Woodrow was a son of Wilbert and Sarah Ann (Stevens) Morris. In 1930, single and living with her parents in Detroit, Isabelle was enumerated as a muscian—singer. Isabelle, a Michigan State University graduate, taught English and Music in Michigan and Iowa. She was a soprano and sang in several choruses, including the San Diego Philharmonia Chorus. Woodrow Morris received his Ph.D. in psychology, University of Michigan. He was on the staff of The University of Iowa Hospital, and for many years was Director of the Institute of Gerontology at the hospital. After Inabelle died, Woodrow married Mary Anders.3380 Woodrow Morris was compiler and editor of "Northern Lights," a series of online reports dealing in part with some of our Clifford ancestors; for example, "A Pennsylvania/New York Connection," see end notes.

In 1910 and 1920 the family was living in Swissvale, Braddock Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.³³⁸⁸ Samuel was enumerated as a foreman in a ? plant in 1920. In 1930, Ada, widow, was head of household with son Arthur and grandson Howard Grannis in Swissvale, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (page 6A).

According to Lytle (1909), they had a store in Mechesneytown, Derry Township, near Latrobe, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. But in 1900 (census page 3A) and 1910 (page 44A), the family was Derry, Westmoreland County, where Thomas a laborer. In 1920 and 1930, Thomas was enumerated as a carpenter on the railroad when the family was still in Derry Township.³³⁹⁸

Gem Irene was a daughter of William Marshall Lytle (#789) and Jane Elizabeth (Johnston) Lytle; hence Homer and Gem were second cousins. In 1920, the family was living in Knoxville Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where Homer was listed as a distributor of ?.³⁴⁰⁵ By 1930, Homer, Gem and family had moved to Franklin County, Ohio, where Homer was enumerated as a clerk for a gas company.³⁴⁰⁶ Gem's mother, Jane Elizabeth Lytle, widow, was also living with the family in 1930.

JOSEPH⁷ MARSHALL REED (James⁶ McKelvey Reed, Marshall⁵ Reed, Sarah⁴ Clifford, Charles³, James², unknown Clifford¹); born 27 October 1877 in Pennsylvania; died 30 January 1939 in St. Petersburg, Florida; married DAISY DEANE DOVERSPIKE; born circa 1881 in Pennsylvania; died 24 December 1963.³⁴¹⁵

Joseph went to Indiana State Normal College (Pennsylvania), then to medical school at Baltimore Medical College; and, according to Lytle (1909), practiced in Idaho. But later, in 1920 and 1930, Joseph, Daisy and family (daughter Deane was not listed with the family in 1930) were living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Joseph was listed as a physician, private practice.³⁴¹⁶

LEWIS⁷ CLIFFORD FOX (Ann⁶ Maria Williamson, Charity⁵ Clifford, Charles⁴, John³, James², unknown Clifford¹); born August 1861 in Asbury, Warren County, New Jersey; died 1927; married (first) MIRIAM KAY KENNEDY; born July 1865 in New Jersey; died 1920. Both Lewis and Miriam are buried in First Presbyterian Cemetery of Asbury, Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey.³⁴²¹ Lewis married (second) CARRY L. [-?-].³⁴²²

Lewis was listed as a huckster at the time of the 1880 census, when he was still living with his parents in Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey.³⁴²³ In 1900, Lewis, Miriam and children were living in Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey (page 9A), where Lewis was enumerated as a drover. Also in the family in 1900 was Annie M. Fox, mother.

Miriam Kennedy was a daughter of [-?-] Kennedy and Arabella (Williamson) Kennedy. Arabella's father was Charles C. Williamson (#829). Hence Lewis and Miriam were first cousins once removed.

In 1900, Charles, Jessie and child Melba were living in Phillipsburg, Warren County, New Jersey (page 11b), where Charles was enumerated as a railroad carpenter. In 1910, Charles, widower, and daughter Melba were living with Charles's parents in Union Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. In 1920, Charles, a "widower," was living with his daughter Melba and her husband Frank Apgar and family in Union Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey; Charles was enumerated as a carpenter.³⁴²⁵ In 1930, Charles was still enumerated as a carpenter, when he was living by himself in Union Township, Hunterdon County; he was living next door to his son-in-law Frank Apgar and his children.³⁴²⁶

In 1900, Joseph, Amy and family were living with Joseph's parents in Union Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.³⁴³¹ In 1910 and 1920, Joseph, Amy and family were living next door to Joseph's parents in Union Township, where Joseph was enumerated as a railroad carpenter in 1910 and as a painter in 1920.³⁴³²

1649. ANNA⁷ BELLE WILLIAMSON (Joseph⁶ B. Williamson, Charity⁵ Clifford, Charles⁴, John³, James², unknown Clifford¹); born February 1882; married HARRY A. COWELL; born circa 1882.

Perhaps Harry Cowell was deceased by the time of the 1930 federal census; at which time Anna B. Cowell, head of household and enumerated as a "nurse, private house, was living with her children and mother, Bertha Williamson, in Union Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.³⁴³⁶ However Anna was listed as married, not as a widow; whereas Anna's mother, Bertha Williamson, was listed as widow. In 1930, there was a Harry Cowell, age 40, boarder, farm hand, single, living in the household of Garnel and Rosa Frye in Franklin Township, Warren County, New Jersey.³⁴³⁷

Probably Harry and Anna were the last of the Cliffords to occupy the Clifford's Pattenburg house. In 1920, the Cowells, including Anna's mother, Bertha Williamson, were enumerated in Union Township,³⁴³⁸ presumably in the Clifford's Pattenburg house. They were still living in Pattenburg in 1930.³⁴³⁹ In 1929 the house had been conveyed to Edward P. Hummer,³⁴⁴⁰ but perhaps Anna Cowell and Anna's mother were still living in it in 1930. An old photograph of the house, circa 1880s, shows Anna and her sister Agnes with their parents in front of the house (see Photo 1, under George Clifford, #2, for more information on the house and the picture).

	2151	ii.	Ellen Cowell; born circa 1911. Ellen was still enumerated with her mother in 1930, and was listed as "widow." Perhaps this is a census error, since there was no indication of a married name for Ellen; also this census listed Ellen's mother as married (instead of being a widow).
	2152	iii.	Frank Cowell; born circa 1915. In 1930, Frank, single and living with his mother, was listed as working in a creamery. There was a Frank A. Cowell, born 11 January 1915, died 7 July 2000, a resident of 74006 Bartlesville, Washington County, Oklahoma.3441
