COUNSELLOR STORIES

"You've Got Mail"
I've been coming to CLUCC for four years and one of my favourite camp traditions is the Mail Tradition. At each meal, mail is handed out to those lucky recipients who have had a loved one or friend send them a letter. However - in order to actually get the letter you have to sing in front of the entire dining hall, promising sheer embarassment and a good laugh! This past summer, I was not able to be at camp full time, so I sent mail to a huge assortment of campers, counsellors and staff members all summer. I must have sent over 25 pieces of mail over the course of four weeks, causing dozens of people to have to sing and dance! Well, for the final week of camp I was able to come up as a counsellor. Unbeknownst to me, on the first night the Staff made an announcement to the whole camp that their goal was to make sure there was some sort of "mail" for me at every meal that week! As a result, I sang my heart out that whole week for mail that included letters, jokes, random craft supplies, a plate with a happy face drawn on it with ketchup, and even a left over piece of roast beef! Once I caught on to what was happening, my cabin of girls and I started to practice songs and little dance routines to make the singing interludes that much more entertaining! So parents, grandparents and friends of campers - be sure to send up a little letter this summer to make your camper part of the Mail Tradition.

"Secret Agent Buddy"
I always look forward to spending a few weeks at CLUCC each summer. Being a counsellor there for 2 years now, it's my new summer get away filled with great friends and activities. Each week is always different from the last. I remember one week in particular from last summer where everyone had a secret agent buddy and we had to make them something or do something nice for them by the end of the week. That week I was a TBA and I spent Flat 'n Happy with a cabin of 10 year old boys. Each day they were all scrambling around trying to make the coolest gift and it was just so nice to see that these boys actually cared about how they were making someone else feel. Camp is the best place for learning life lessons and making a few friends along the way. I know for sure that I will never forget any of the memories I have from camp.
