QUICK START FOR THE PPTP-BASED SITE-TO-SITE VPN TEST LAB

 

Setting up the Test Lab

 

The infrastructure for a PPTP-based Site-to-Site VPN deployment test lab network consists of five standalone computers performing the roles as shown on the diagram. Each computer is part of a workgroup. All computers are running Windows Server 2003. The Client computer can be replaced by machine running under Windows XP Professional.

 

Procedure

 

  1. Connect all the computers according to the diagram. Straight through cables are used in the connections to the Switch. Cross-over cables are used  in all other connections.

 

  1. The Internet Information Services Manager (IIS) should be installed in the Web Server machine with a default home page.

 

  1. Configurate the Client, Web Server and Internet Simulation Router according to the IP addresses as shown on the diagram.

 

  1. Enable the Routing and Remote Access Services on the three Router machines.

 

  1. Configurate the Calling and Answering VPN Routers according to the information on the diagram

 

  1. Setup the PPTP-based Site-to-Site VPN connection and Demand-Dialing on the Calling and Answering  Routers according to the detail procedures on the Microsoft  Windows Server 2003 VPN Test Lab Step-by-Step Guide.

 

  1. Initiate and test  the VPN connections according to the procedures on the Guide.

( connect, ping , tracert ).

 

  1. Set browser on Client to get the default web page of  Web Server.

 

Note: All  IP addresses on the Guide should be replaced  by the corresponding  

          addresses on the diagram.
