Buhcha and wublum are gushiegu names for striga
cotton, soybean, bambara bean, groundnuts, cowpea
Catch crop will initiate germination and be impacted by parasite; trap crop will cause autosuicide.
Farmers may see striga as the cause of low soil nutrients as opposed to symptomatic. Cotton companies are willing to sponsor farmers with plowing servers (one acre for food crops with the commitment to one and one quarter acre [a carry over from arabic feydan promoted by egyptian cotton agrologists) . Guinea corn is the Ghanaian term for sorghum.
Try floating seed out of top soil.
Spoke to world vision rep bernard who opined that sometimes development projects target issues that are not percieved as problems by the communities.

how many are they? 15 but dwindled to 6
Have they had training about striga? mofa
Is the photo sufficient to identify striga? what are local names? bocha, wublum
is it percieved as a problem? maize and guinea corn
are these for different types of striga? how is striga a problem? causes them
to clear more land. Soil fertility decreasing leads to striga infestation. Destroys crop:thin stalk, stunted, yellowish, leaves are whitish at about knee
height, stalk doesn't appear as quickly with striga infestation with other problems
the stalk comes up but may be stunted.
wind and water, tools and animals can transfer seeds. Drying seeds elsewhere, cleaning tools and washing seeds can reduce striga seed
dispersal
winnowing and washing of seed can reduce seed stores
striga seed can last for years. Seed too valuable to plant densely.
