Back in the previous millenium, I got the idea that I should visit a country for every letter of the alphabet. This seemingly innocuous thought managed to take root in my head, and became the driving force behind my vacation choices. After nearly ten years of consulting atlases and country lists, I travelled to the last letter on my list, and put up this page as a memorial to alternative ways of choosing vacation destinations.
If you want to see the world, where you begin is not all that important. Most countries, with the possible exception of Qatar, have at least one redeeming feature that makes them worth visiting. By using the alphabet as a guide, you are spared agonizing decisions of where to go, because you can simplify your choices to what letters you have left. If you worry about missing out on something in a country already covered, you can always see what uncovered countries are near, and take a side trip. After all, vacations are annual events, and most of us will get more than twenty six of them.
