other stuff

In 2001, I visited Masai Mara National Park in Kenya. This is the park where all the documentary crews go, primarily to film the annual migration of the wildebeest. Even though I was there in the wrong season for the migration, the park was still overflowing with animals to see.

While at the park, I visited one of the local Masai villages. This was a bit of a tourist show, but still interesting. With so many people coming to Kenya, it was just more economically sensible for the locals to dress up for camera packing tourists like myself, than to go rustle cattle from other tribes.

I'll also put in a shameless plug for the safari company that I used in Kenya. Bike TrekS runs tours for both cyclists and normal people. As they dealt with cycling clientele, the food was really good, and there was enough to fill me up. If you've ever gone to a buffet with me, you will understand just what this really means. Food aside, the guides were very knowledgeable, and spoke English well.
