To explain our having a Pharaoh Hound, you would have to go back to 1968 when “Gigi” a rescue Dalmatian came into our life.  Her sweet disposition, temperament and willingness to please endeared the Breed to us. 

Advancing a few years, we acquired our first “show Dalmatian dog when our daughter caught the “bug” for showing and passed it on to her brother.  We then had two dogs, one for Lesley, the other for Stewart.  The two kids did the conformation end of showing while we, my husband and I did the obedience.  This is when the kids met and fell in love with a Pharaoh Hound.  At the shows they would meet and play with the Pharaohs and help the breeder with the dogs.

Unfortunately the breeder passed away and the dogs, now elderly, soon joined her.  Our contact was lost and not having computers and internet in those days, we put everything on the back burner and stayed with our “Chosen Breed” and receiving our Permanent Registration of Brandweer while continuing showing our own dogs and also those for other breed owners.

Again, fast forward to a sanction match which the breeder (Mirage’s) walked in with a Pharaoh on the end of her leash.  Lesley talked to the woman and found that she had a 4 month old bitch for sale.  The next day this little puppy came home with us to see if she could live with us, our bitch Maggie and our Kennel Manager Alice, a 17 year old African Gray Parrot.

Kiya is still with us and is now over 4 years old, she is good “buds” with Maggie and Alice is still living.  (She has to be as it is Alice that shares her  Nacho Chips with the dogs but not her coca cola.)  A few months later Lesley adopted Reno, Kiya’s aunt and we are now officially owned by the Pharaoh Hounds.
