These are the three minimum things necessary to protect your computer.  None of these replace good computer practices. 1  The Firewall Helps keep your computer secure from intruders entering through the network. 2  Windows Updates Keeps your operating system up to date. 3  A properly utilized antivirus application Helps keep viruses, Trojans, worms and other malicious code out of the computer. 4  Spyware removal tools This is the 4th item on the list, run regularly to help keep your computer free of spyware and other similar malware.
