"Our Beginnings"

On May 2nd 2005 I lost my good friend Jake . My German Shepherd dog of four years. A sadness came over me I could not shake. Daily I would see him no matter where I went or what I did. He was a faithful friend and constant companion. On May 24th , three days before my birthday my husband announces that he wants to get a pup for me. This pup was not replace him but to enrich our lives as Jake once did.
We started looking through the newspaper adds and on the internet. We came across a breeder (FONSECA'S) and with one look at Sailor Man a finished champion, Rick tells me to call. After getting directions we headed over. We spent appoximately four hours watching the three shepherd puppies and meeting their parents. We talked with the breeder Jodi extensively. We left for the bank not knowing which of the two male puppies we would purchase. While driving away we made our decision and off to the bank we went , then on to the store for puppy supplies.

The female puppy they were keeping. Striker then called Stevie was fifteen hundred, while D-n-D was a thousand. D-n-D while nice to look at was laid back with kind eyes. Now Striker a handsome boy was a goer full of character and spunk. We chose Striker who not only is full of himself he has the "Attitude" as well.

Striker now home melded into our routine and melted our hearts. For the first week I was up nightly with him cause he had dierrrhea. Once it was finished he stayed in his bed (crate) till I got up... His house training came easy for him. Not for me for I watched him endlessly letting him out when he sat at the door. The first month was exhausting for me but worth the bonding. The one time I did not let him out , he headed to the kitchen and relieved himself on my floor. I was not about to make that mistake again.
Striker is not only a quick learner he is a smart thinker. At 15 weeks , he knows his sits , downs , heel, stay up to a minute and will give his paw. Not only will he shake a paw he will give me the other paw when asked. Striker walks proud with attitude. I capitalized on this and when he prances I get him lifting his paws even higher. He struts around when asked adding to his majestic look.
Now you ask me why I call him my Devil Dog. He may be gorgeous to look at but under that angelic cute puppy look he is my Devil Dog. Twice a day he roars around like a hurricane . At those times he hears nothing and terrorizes as he runs. He has given us so much laughter watching him play , jump and run. I look forward to Striker teaching me lots.
