Dave's 1/6 M4A4 Sherman Firefly
This is the begining of the Sherman Firefly project code named Kodiak. I am building to the rules specified by the www.rctankcombat.com website. The tank is a 1/6 scale replica of the Sherman Firefly used by Canadian forces at the end of WW][. A few reasons why i picked this design, one is that the sherman tank was under armoured for direct attack against German heavy tanks like the Tiger or Panther, which makes it is an underdog of sorts. The second is that with the addition of the British 17lbr AT gun the Sherman was able to kill the Tiger and Panthers basically turning the tides against them. The focus of the Kodiak is that it will be as realistic to scale as functionally possible and still be able to compete in the paintball arena. So if some things are diffrent then historically there are some reasons for it and most likely it was either easier or cheaper to do it a diffrent way. I will try and include enough pictures as i go about the design and building of this tank.

I will continue adding pictures as i progress. If you have any questions please email me.

Lower and upper hull. Lower hull is standard grade 3/8 ply, upper hull is 1/8 fir with reinforcing foam.
Suspension is built using surplus wheels, tread mill belt and cast aluminum components. The track is based on the TTS system. At this point the only hard part seems to be finding springs to use in the suspension.
The turret was made using foam then fibreglassing over the foam. Didn't work as well as i had hoped.
