| Until 1969, Delta mayors were known as reeves. Delta’s last reeve - Dugald J.
Morrison - was also its first mayor. Reeve is an English term for chief
magistrate or warden. In Delta’s early days, Reeves were publicly elected every
year, then every two years, then every three. Today, municipal elections are
governed by the provincial Municipal Act and take place on the third Saturday of
November in
all B.C. municipalities. |
