David Marchak

David Marchak was born and baptized in Leduc, Alberta in 1965. Less than two years later, his parents moved to North Delta, BC and into Immaculate Conception Parish. It was here that David learned that volunteer activities occasionally take precedence over making a living.

David graduated from the Computer Systems department of the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1986. Around this time, the Archdiocese of Vancouver was continuing an annual fund raising drive called "Project Advance". Part of the drive involved typing names and addresses on hundreds of pledge cards. Each year, volunteers would gather around their typewriters and peck away at the keys. David's dad came to him with a proposal, "Wouldn't it be easier to enter the names in a computer once and then print out the forms from that same file each year?" David created a simple program and his dad began the awesome task of entering thousands of names and addresses.

A year later, David was approached by representatives from Star of the Sea Parish in White Rock. They wondered if he could add a few more features to the program (like recording weekly donations) and sell them a copy. Thus began the tradition of adding new features based on the requests of the people using the program. The following year, two more parishes purchased the program and it had an official name -- "Paritek" was born. As the user base has grown, new features have been added to meet the needs of those users.

Paritek represents a unique blend of business and volunteer efforts. Parishes purchase the software, but receive free phone support. David donates part of each new sale to an existing Paritek user. David offers additional services at rates far below a standard consulting fee. While Paritek does pay for itself, any profits generated are used to enhance the product. This web site represents another effort to assist all parishes, whether they are clients or not.
