Canadian Motorcycle Guide's Mad Bastard Scooter Rally 2007
For all those interested, the Mad Bastard Scooter rally is scheduled
for June 23-24 somewhere in the Toronto area. For details of the 2007
and past CMG rallies, click
here. It would be good to check with your local scooter
club to see what the upcoming years rally schedule is gonna be so you
can get the time off to attend. If I lived closer to Toronto (or owned
a suitable scooter transport vehicle) I'd defintely be interested .
Yamaha has a new 50cc
scooter (XF50 "C Cubed" also known as C3 ) with additional
storage of 34 litres underseat storage as it's main feature. It looks
utilitarian rather than the two main schools of "Racing scooter"
or "Classic scooter". While you could say it follows the Honda Ruckus
utilitarian school it is so much more useful with the covered storage.
With 4 stroke engine as in the new 50cc Vino it will also sip gas
and it also puts out a lot of electrical power for those
who like to add accessories. It has a longer wheelbase than even
the Vino 125 so won't be as "twitchy" as other scoots in
it's class. Honda came up with a similar concept years ago ( a
50cc Helix) but never marketed it. Too bad as you can never
have enough storage. Unlike the Honda, manufacturers have
already started pumping out big bore kits to increase
displacement and power for the four stroke Yamahas.
I was lingering in downtown Victoria and noticed an
electric
bicycle shop on the street . Had some time to kill so strolled in and
was surprised to see a couple of scooters there. One is modelled after
the Yamaha Vino and the other looked like a Jog . Both had disk
brakes and were of surprisingly good build quality. Both
have been classed as "speed limited" vehicles like other 50cc scooters
and can achieve legal city speed limits. No Gas required.
Just plug it in to a regular household outlet when you get home. With a
range of 40 km it seemed a viable vehicle for commuting
although speed supposedly drops on hills. Anyways check out GWEVs website for
more info
