|In addition to birds, many mammal, amphibian, reptile and insect species may be observed. Harbour Seals are commonly sighted. Mule Deer, Coyote, Raccoon, Douglas' Squirrel and the introduced Gray Squirrel may be found. Rarely observed are River Otter, Black Bear and Northern Sea Lion.
The most easily observed reptile is the Northwestern Garter Snake, and the most common amphibian is the Pacific Treefrog.
During the spring and summer months look for butterflies. With a good guide book, you may identify a wide range of species. Look for Mourning Cloak, Western Tiger Swallowtail, Painted Lady, Pine White, Milbert's Tortoiseshell, Lourquin's Admiral, Red Admiral, Cabbage Butterfly, Gray Hairstreak, Woodland Skipper, Satyr Anglewing and Spring Azure.
