Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary Bird Checklist published in 1995 have been updated using the 7th edition of the American Ornithologists' Union (AOU) Check-List of North American Birds (AOU 1998) and its supplement (AOU 2000).

The following is a list of the bird species that have been observed at the George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary. The status of each species is indicated by an abundance level in each of four seasons. The standard four letter code is shown for each species.

Explanation of Symbols

Seasonal Occurrence
Sp = Spring (March - May)
S = Summer (June - August)
F = Fall (September - November)
W = Winter (December - February)

Relative Abundance
a = abundant [almost always seen]
c = common [found on most visits]
f = fairly common [found on some visits]
u = uncommon [seldom seen]
r = rare [hardly ever found]
ca = casual [not seen every year]
ac = accidental [1 or 2 records]
