 Mini Stock Rules & Regulations
IF IT DOESN`T SAY YOU CAN DO IT, DON’T DO IT!

The main concern and general rule for the Mini Stock Class is SAFETY FIRST!
Hidden Valley Motorsports Park Technical Officials and Race Director have the first and final say about everything.


ELIGIBLE MODELS

Any American or foreign, compact or sub-compact, with a maximum wheelbase of 101". Maximum of four cylinder stock engines. No turbo or rotary engines. No convertibles. May run In front or rear wheel drive cars. Wheelbase and track width tolerance +/- 1” for adjustments only.

 

This is an Economy Class and it will remain that way.

BODY

Body must remain completely factory stock. Fiberglass and plastic body parts allowed, only if they were factory installed.

Fuel cell mounted in trunk area, may cut out bottom of trunk to allow for fuel cell installation only. Maximum of ten 1/2" diameter fuel drain holes recommended.

Rear firewall of 22 AWG sheet metal must be constructed to seal driver’s compartment from fuel compartment.

All edges must be rolled - no sharp edges.

All interior flammable materials must be removed.

Inner door skins may be removed. No other interior metal panel removal permitted. Door skins may be replaced with 22 AWG gauge sheet metal - must look stock.

Hood pins must be used to secure front of hood and rear of trunk if stock hinges are used, otherwise hood and trunk must use four hood pins each.

Driver’s window opening may be enlarged for driver entry, but must be kept to a minimum and cannot go below the uppermost cage door bar.

Body and frame must have minimum 4" ground clearance.

All glass must be removed with the exception of the front windshield, which may be replaced with a minimum 1/8" thick polycarbonate (Lexan), not Plexiglass, and reinforced with four clips on outside of windshield. Wire mess or 3/8’’ solid bars spaced no further than 4’’ may be used (FACE SHIELD MUST BE WORN).

 

Trimming of wheel wells for tire clearance must be kept to a minimum and must maintain proper body configuration. No jagged edges.

Tires must be covered by fender or flare.

Stock bumper may be reinforced. (Not visible from the outside.)

Rear spoiler 6" flush mount allowed. Front spoilers allowed, but must maintain 4-inch ground clearance.

Frame rail connectors are recommended.

ROLLCAGE REQUIREMENTS

Must have a full 6-point rollcage made of minimum 1.5" x 0.095" wall thickness. No angle iron or square tubing in rollcage. Must have a 3/8" hole in main hoop for inspection purposes.

All bends must be flowing, not crimped.

The cage must have six 4" x 4" x 1/8" backing plates to bolt cage to chassis. Must have four 3/8" minimum bolts per plate if bolted. May weld cage to frame. Backing plates are strongly recommended for uni-body cars.

The cage must consist of a main hoop within 12" of driver. Cage must have an X-brace in main hoop behind driver and also one cross bar at shoulder height connecting at X. Must have two back braces which connect no more than 6" below the top of the main hoop behind the driver. Must have one dash bar. Must have one overhead front bar at the top of the windshield connecting the left and right sides of cage. Must have three driver’s side kidney bars bent out as close to door skin as possible (no straight bars accepted on driver’s side), with a minimum of two upright supports between each door bar. Two passenger side door bars bent out to door skin are strongly recommended, with minimum two upright supports between each door bar. The driver’s seat mounting bracket must be welded to the drivers door bar and the X-brace only, not the floorboards. Review Enduro diagram for seat mounting brackets.

One nerf bar of same size cage material maximum permitted on each side of car. Must be bent inward and welded to main hoop and front cage post. May not extend outside of the tires when viewed from the top. May not extend more than 1" away from bodyline.

A 'foot box' or adequate reinforcing of the drivers floor to firewall is required. Must be welded to front cage.

 

      7. Front and rear hoops are strongly recommended.

CHASSIS & SUSPENSION

Any steel springs that are stock may be used. Must fit in stock location. Only one spring per wheel assembly.

Springs may be cut or heated to lower. No racing springs.

Stock or gas shocks permitted, racing or adjustable coil over suspension not permitted.

Shock/strut towers must be in original stock position. Shock/strut towers may be tied to each other with a bar.

Strength modifications allowed for safety and durability, not for performance.

No aftermarket sway bars. Sway bars for that year’s make and model are permitted.

Shackles must be in stock location.

Front and rear sub-frames may be joined with like-size material, one piece per side.

Extra bracing on stock A-frames permitted, may lengthen or shorten.

Adjustable camber allowed on right front tire for setup purposes only.



ENGINES

Headers allowed.

No machining of camshaft - stock lift and duration.

Four-cylinder, Engine will be maximum 2.6 LT, Maximum overbore 0.030’’

Engine must be in stock location + or – 1" in case of engine swap based on #1 spark plug.

The air filter must be contained in engine compartment and any type is permitted.

Engine must be equipped with a battery-operated starter.

Engine swapping allowed within same manufacturer (i.e. Toyota to Toyota, Honda to Honda, etc.). Location - see rule #5 Engines.

Stock oil pump, pistons, one stock camshaft, crankshaft, connecting rods, intake and exhaust valves.

Expanding and baffling of oil pan permitted.

Match porting of cylinder head is permitted, but only for a total of ONE inch between ports (i.e., 1/2" in the intake port, 1/2" in the intake manifold).

Machining and balancing of engine components as needed for durability only.

Engine breather must have a catch can (one litre minimum).

Stock crank only. Machining allowed for bearing clearances only.

No mixing of components out of different engine families.

Muffler are optional ( exhaust must be secure )

Solid engine mounts allowed.

 

17  DOHC 4 valve engine are allowed


DRIVETRAIN

Locked, open, welded, or limited slip differentials allowed.

 

Stock transmission with all gears operating. Must have forward and reverse.

Drive shaft must have two steel straps 1/4" thick by 2" wide within 8" of U-joints.

                                                                                          

Standard transmissions should have a ¼’’ thick plate on the back side of the clutch area for

explosion protection.

                  
CARBURETOR & FUEL

One stock 2-barrel carburetor, stock fuel injection, or a Holley 4412 only. ABSOLUTELY no polishing of carburetor or throttle body.

Stock fuel tank allowed if in trunk area. Fuel cell recommended. Adequate installation required.

Stock fuel injection must match car and engine.

No fuel lines permitted in driver’s compartment.

Pump gas only. No additives, nitrous oxide, alcohol, nitro-methane, etc.

Electric fuel pump allowed. Must be equipped with Ford Stock part number 9341A or 9341AZ.or wired to an oil pressure shut off switch .

Removal of choke plate and jetting of carb permitted.



ELECTRICAL

All switches must be clearly marked and accessible to driver while strapped in harness.

A master kill switch must be located at the bottom of the rear window on the driver’s side (as close to the fender as possible), and must be a battery disconnect and shut off engine switch. Must be clearly marked ON and OFF.

Car must have two separate ground cables.

Battery must be in a plastic leak proof container and securely mounted to the chassis behind the driver. Steel straps are required.


WHEELS & TIRES & BRAKES

Steel and aluminum mag wheels allowed. Maximum rim width is 7" and may be 13" 14’’ 15’’ dia.



Must have functional stock brakes on all four wheels.



COOLING

Any size radiator permitted in stock location. Glycol, water , Water wetters permitted.

Must have one-litre minimum overflow bottle mounted in engine compartment.

Additional coolers allowed outside the driver’s compartment.



PROTECTION

Drivers window net mandatory.

Helmet must be Snell 90 minimum (Snell 95 or 2000 SA recommended).

5-point racing harness mandatory with center quick-release

Adequate rollbar padding required.

Aluminum racing seat recommended. Steel bucket seat permitted. Must be secured solid to prevent forward pitching. Fiberglass racing seats permitted. Seat must be mounted to cage.

Gloves and suitable shoes mandatory. No nylon.

Nomex racing suit fire retardant coveralls required.

Neck brace required.

All cars with electric fuel pump must be equipped with inertia switch. See rule # 7 Carburetor & Fuel.

All teams are required to have a working fire extinguisher in their pit at all times.



LETTERING & NUMBERING

Numbers may be registered by calling HIDDEN VALLEY MOTORSPORTS PARK at 1-403-823-6469 Larry Duxbury. Lettering and numbering must be done in a highly visible and professional manner. No metallic or "glitter" numbers allowed.

Door and roof numbers to be a minimum of 16" in height and must be of a contrasting color to the car color. Roof number to be read from passenger side.



ADDITIONAL NOTES

It is the racer’s responsibility to ensure that his/her vehicle is legal prior to arriving at the track.

 

These rules will be in effect without significant changes until the year 2007, at which time the rules may be amended. Any rule interpretations or modifications made during the season shall be put in writing for all registrants of the Mini Stock class.

All drivers must hold a valid Class Five Provincial Drivers License. The license must be showed at Tech upon request. Failure to produce a valid driver’s license will result in disqualification from the day’s events without refund. Additional fines are at the discretion of the Race Director.

Use of non-factory parts permitted as long as the part is not significantly performance enhancing. The use of parts specifically produced for racecars are not permitted.

Disputes regarding car/mechanical legality that the Mini Stock racers deems unsolvable shall be referred to the track officials in writing no more than 15 min after an event for resolution.

These rules are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants or spectators. These rules express no implied warranty or safety in any way.
