VCD Guides
bbMPEG is a free MPEG-1/2 encoder that comes with FlaskMPEG and the quality is good but slightly worse and a lot slower than the other encoders. I would stay away from using this encoder unless you really have to use it.
This is the best encoder for for encoding VCD's (MPEG-1). It produces sharper picture quality than Cinema Craft Encoder and its also less blocky compared to bbMPEG and less blurry compared to the Panasonic encoder. It is also a very good SVCD (MPEG-2) encoder and produces picture quality almost as good as Cinema Craft Encoder.
This is another method of making VCD's with TMPG. If you don't like using the Video Server method with Xmpeg, you can try this method. You also get the best audio quality since the audio is encoded separately using HeadAC3he.
This MPEG-1 encoder is a bit slower than bbMPEG but the picture quality is better. It also has video filters that may help improve picture quality.
This encoder is fast and creates pretty good quality picture in MPEG-1 but its not so good with MPEG-2.
This encoder is regarded as the best MPEG-2 encoder and its also the fastest MPEG-2 encoder. It creates really sharp video quality in MPEG-2 but you may notice some fuzziness around the edges of objects but this only happens if you encode at low bitrates. This encoder is also good for encoding MPEG-1 but it has slightly worse picture quality than TMPG.
Cinema Craft Encoder - Standalone
This method uses the CCE standalone encoder to encode VCD movies instead of using Flask with the CCE plugin. The advantage of this is that you get Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound because the audio is encoded separately using HeadAC3he.
