KNIT in a world where multiple balls of yarn never
roll away or get tangled into a knotted mess ...it's easy!

Roll yarn into center-pull balls or butterfles to prepare for your knitting project.
This step also lets you inspect the yarn and avoid unexpected imperfections later.

how to roll a center-pull yarn ball
—the key is to wrap yarn neat'n tidy, loose-yet-controlled

  • measure required length of yarn, or select new skein
  • secure yarn end in palm, while winding yarn from skein
around two or more fingers—forming a figure "8" base
  • remove from fingers, fold in half (no need to twist) and
continue to wrap yarn LOOSELY around this inner base
(keep your thumb in the center until ball is complete)
  • secure end with elastic, or tuck behind outer layers

descriptive yarn tag
—for keeping track of yarn type, length etc.

  • cut small square of paper, punch a hole in the corner,
then insert an elastic band through the punched hole
  • write yarn length, type, or any other info onto tag, then
affix tag with elastic around newly rolled center-pull ball
  • TIP: start a notebook to record important details about
your knitting project's stitch, technique and yarn details.
ALSO, saving the yarn manufacturer's label can be helpful
—in case you run short and need to match the yarn later

how to make a yarn butterfly
—for shorter lengths of yarn

  • measure short length of yarn
  • secure yarn end in palm, while winding yarn around
two or more fingers to form a loose figure "8" base
  • remove from fingers, wrap remaining yarn
around the center of figure "8"
  • secure end with elastic, or tuck behind layers
