Doing the AD on the bulkhead the hor stab attaches to...

Page down a ways to see this post....

Did the repairs specified in Van's AD to reinforce the bulkhead in the tailcone. The job seemed like it was pretty major, but in fact, it was not difficult to do. I started Monday morn and finished Wedensday. I only spent about 3hrs a day on it, so it went very well.

This is the left side before...

and after.
The right side before....
and after

I flipped the horizontal stab over and placed it on top of the fuselage. This saved me having to disconnect the trim cables.

The trick is to place a board across the deck at the front so the leading edge of the stab can rest on it during the flipping procedure. (little play on words there...)

I was able to do the whole job by myself.

Tailcone AD from Van's

Van's has found some cracking on a bulkhead in the tailcone of their RV-10. As a result, they have issued a mandatory AD which will require the removal of the empannege and disassembly of the rear tailcone. They have supplied some reinforcing doublers and a package of rivits. I will start the repairs Monday Sept 8th.

The aircraft now has about 95 hours on it and it is performing flawlessly. I took it to Oshkosh and on to London Ontario this summer
