Frequently Asked Questions

What is collarbone breathing, why is it done, and how do you do it?  Collarbone breathing is a technique used when someone 's energy is very much off kilter.  I can often feel this energy as a disruptive force in the room, even during telephone conversations. I might ask the client to say "I am in my centre", and surrogate muscle check this statement.  If it tests weak, I will proceed with by guiding them through collar bone breathing as outlined below.  People in any state of anxiety will benefit from CBT or Collarbone Breathing Technique.  This is the variation of this technique that I use, but other variations seem to work as well.  If you get lost in the process, just repeat the entire breathing sequence for that side, etc.  Sometimes i will take a client through a sequence more than once if my intuition leads me to;sometimes I will skip

Collarbone Breathing - My Method for Centering

A. Hold two fingers of either hand on either side of collarbone:
  1. Breathe half way in,
  2. breathe the rest of the way in,
  3. breathe in even more.
  4. Breathe half way out,
  5. the rest of the way out,
  6. breathe out even more.
  7. Breathe halfway in.

B. Move same two fingers to other side of collar bone.
  1. Breathe half way in,
  2. breathe the rest of the way in,
  3. breathe  in even more.
  4. Breathe half way out,
  5. the rest of the way out,
  6. breathe out even more.
  7. Breathe halfway in.
C. Put thumb inside knuckles of same hand. And repeat breathing pattern:

  3. breathe in even more.
  4. Breathe half way out,
  5. the rest of the way out,
  6. breathe out even more.
  7. Breathe halfway in.
4. Move same set of knuckles to other side of collar bone and repeat breathing pattern:
  1. Breathe half way in,
  2. breathe the rest of the way in,
  3. breathe in even more.
  4. Breathe half way out,
  5. the rest of the way out,
  6. breathe out even more.
  7. Breathe halfway in.

5. 6.  7. 8. Use the other hand and repeat the entire process.

Muscle checking is a technique that I use to check the accuracy of various statements.  Typically in an  appointment, I might have a client say a statement, and ask him or her how true it felt, for example, "I don't deserve to get over my cigarette addiction." I call  this'noticing'  As you do more of this work, you get better at noticing whether something is true or not when you say it. Noticing is different for everyone. Some people can't tell if something  is true or false until they have been balanced for the issue, or dealt with the reversal.  For instance, some people are better at noticing the difference after we have treated  for reversal using  the 'Even though' statements and tapping the karate chop point.  On my end, I muscle check the sound of your voice for the truth of the statement.  I could also do it without your saying the statement, but I  prefer to do it as you say each statement.

Typically, when I muscle check, I hold one arm out and press down with about 2 lbs of pressure with the other hand. If the statement is true, the first arm is able to easily resist the strength of my hand.  If the statement is false, my arm goes down.  It takes practice to use this technique and sometimes even certified practitioners have difficulty using it.  Start with the statement, "my name is "your real name." Then if your arm is strong for this, say "My name is 'not your real name'". Your arm should go down.  If it doesn't work, you may need to drink water or do some collarbone breathing.  Again, this takes practice and there is much more to it than I can explain here.  You can search "muscle testing" on the internet to find out more about it. ( I use the term muscle checking because people think that a test is something they have to pass by being strong.  Really though, there is no right or wrong information - it is just information).
When I surrogate muscle check, I am tapping into my inner knowing, or perhaps I am tapping into the energy of the planet, I don't know.  This can be trickier to use this way and is not always completely reliable. (It is important that I  take my own attitudes, preferences and expectations out of the way of the result) It is an indicator that I do use, however, especially when I do surrogate tapping on other people. You can check my web site, www. emofree.ca under articles/surrogate tapping for more info about this.   It may seem a little strange to you, but I find it works for me.   http://www3.telus.net/emofree/articles.html#surrogate_tapping_top
