Join us as we step into the Way Back machine and visit our original website, hosted by geocities in 1998 and '99. Thanks to Internet Archive. We were the first spore vendor with an online order form back then. Now everybody has shopping carts, paypal and credit cards but we are still the first with our own forums. No doubt that will be copied soon as well!  Some of the links below have been deactivated...

Tricholoma appium          For the true collector of rare spores, this one is a must. This prolific mushroom is normally found in Western Europe. It was discovered growing on Mt. Elphinstone several years ago by western Canada's emminent mycologist, Paul Kroeger and, with the assistance of Scott Redhead of Ottawa, was identified as Tricholoma appium. Mt. Elphinstone remains the only site in North America where significant populations of the fungi can be found. Single specimens have been found in only three other locations, all within 50 miles of Mt. Elphie.

For enviromentalists trying to halt logging on the mushroom-rich mountain, the specie was a godsend and quickly became Mt. Elphinstones 'spotted owl'. For more on the enviromentalists latest efforts, click here.

Inocybe lacera

Inocybe specie mushrooms are very hard to identify on field characteristics alone. This specie appears to be I. lacera or a close relative. Distinguishing features include: Location - in disturbed soil along a path
Cap - dry, brown, scaly and flat with a distinct knob
Season - specimens were found in May, typical of I. lacera and very few others

Most Inocybe specie mushrooms contain Muscarine, a toxic poison. For more info on Muscarine, click here.

DISCLAIMER: Although Captain Max encourages cultivation of edible species, spore prints of poisonous and hallucinogenic mushrooms are for scientific study only.
