The 9th Commandment

Ex 20:16
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

This is expressed in other way in the Bible such as lies, false accusations, and evil speaking, and would also include gossip, deceptive insinuation, and in some cases sarcasm.  Of course gossip can be regarding things that are true,  false, or anywhere in between.

Rev 12:10
... for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

John 8:44
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

 Prov 19
 5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
 9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

Ps. 34:14
Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.

Ps. 50:19
Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.

Ps. 140:3, 11
 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah
 Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

James 4:11
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

Matthew 5:22
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of th
e council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

If one is in danger of 'hell fire' simply for calling someone a fool, what of when accusing them of worse things?

Matthew 25:40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Deut. 19:15-21
One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity,
or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth:
at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.

  If a false witness rise up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong;
  Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, which shall be in those days;
  And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified
falsely against his brother;

  Then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shalt thou put the evil away from among you.
  And those which remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil among you.
  And thine eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

John 7:51
Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know
what he doeth?

Matthew 7:1-2
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
  For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Matthew 25:40
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Revelation 21:27
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Rev. 14:12
Here is the patience of the saints:
 here [are] they that keep the commandments of God,
and the faith of Jesus.

Job 5:21
Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue:
neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

Ps. 109:1-5
 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;
 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.
For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.
And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

There is a collection of excellent  SOP quotes regarding this subject here which
I highly recommend everyone read.

Here is a small sample

Church members, in not following the rules Christ has given them, aid Satan in the accomplishment of his work, when, had they been doers of the words of Christ, and not hearers only, they might have been wholly successful in taking the steps Christ has given in the settlement of difficulties.  {RH, April 15, 1880 par. 11}

If we have unwittingly borne false witness, if we have misstated his words, if we have injured his influence in any way, we should go to the ones with whom we have conversed about him, and take back all our injurious misstatements. {MB 59.1}

 Let busybodies and accusers be visited and rebuked. If after thorough labor, they do not hold their tongues in check, they should be suspended from church membership. {15MR 163.2}

 O, how much time is worse than wasted by evil-speaking! Because of this sin, not half is accomplished that might be accomplished. Men and women become mischief-makers for Satan.... {RH, June 9, 1903 par. 3}

  Those who think and speak evil of their fellow laborers, opening the mind to false reports, and taking up a reproach against their neighbor, grieve the Spirit of God, and put Christ to open shame.... I know that the Holy Spirit will not co-operate with those who, by their criticisms, their evil surmisings, and their hard-heartedness, are helping Satan. {RH, June 9, 1903 par. 4}
