Lindeman and Greendrop Lakes
June 30, 2007
The Canada Day long weekend started out with a cloudy, slightly ominous-looking day. Jodi and I wanted to do a hike, so we headed out towards the Fraser Valley anyway. As we drove, the clouds got thinner and thinner, so it looked like we were going to luck out with the weather and finally get some sun (this has been one of the rainiest Junes on record in Vancouver). We arrived in Chilliwack and drove towards Chilliwack Lake, but parked before we got to the lake, at the trailhead. It was pretty pleasent weather at this point, but still cool enough for pants instead of shorts. We started onto the trail, which started out with a 30-minute climb up to first lake (Lindeman).
We walked around Lindeman Lake, which involved crossing a big talus slope. We followed the trail upwards, which went back and forth between the forest and talus slopes. Just before the lake, we found that our trail had been turned into a creek by the melting snow! We had to use some creative routefinding to cross the bigger branches of the creek, but it wasn't too bad. We got to beautiful Greendrop Lake after about 2.5 hours, and sat down for a filling late lunch.
After lunch, we headed back down the same way we came up. The sun was nice and warm, with a good breeze! We passed back through Lindeman Lake and there were lots of tents set up - it looked like a great place for families to go camping, since it isn't too far of a hike from the trailhead. After we got to the car, we drove quickly out to Chilliwack Lake to check out the view.
