Lynn Peak, Lynn Headwaters Park

June 3, 2007

My friend Aviv was back in town from MIT. Aviv was keen to do a hike while he was back in the great northern wilderness, despite a forecast for heavy rain and ominous, SAD-inducing rainclouds lurking around the North Shore. In addition, I'm never one to say no to a hike. So, four poor souls set off from Aviv's family home near Cambie, and we drove to Lynn Headwaters parking lot. There was some kind of Father's Day fishing event going on that we passed by as we entered the park.

We walked along Lynn Creek for perhaps a kilometre, and the rain was holding off for the time being. We took the turnoff for Lynn Peak, and headed up a fairly steep trail into the fog. The trail was in pretty good shape, but a little rough. The forest does look quite eerie and mysterious when everything is shrouded in mist.

As we climbed, the rain started to come down, and we all quickly became soaked. We came to a viewpoint and were treated to a wall of white cloud. We pressed upwards in spite of heavier rain, and upon reaching the top were greeted by another white wall! The terrain dropped off sharply from the peak so I imagine it would have been a great view in better weather, but oh well, at least we were outside getting exercise!

After we spent our time taking summit shots and drinking in the panoramic scenery, we quickly headed down. The rain let up a little, but it was still quite wet. I was glad to reach the car and begin drying out. Aviv seems to have a knack for picking rainy days for hikes - see the last paragraph of High Falls Creek hike! But given the chance, I'd go again because hiking is fun!
