Kiliani Volkfest, Nurenberg, and ERASMUS
July 19 - 30 2004
Last weekend we went to the Kiliani Volkfest. It's a lot like the PNE/Playland, except that the food is better, and there's a lot more emphasis on German beer. Some of the highlights included the roller coaster with 5 loops, chocolate-covered strawberries, and the ridiculously-sized 1L beers.
This weekend was a day trip to Nurenburg, which is only an hour away from where we live. Nurenburg has a lot of WWII history - it was where the Nazis held their rallies, and also where the post-war trials were held. We saw some of the arenas where the rallies were, and also a museum. After all that history, we headed back downtown to see the rest of the city. There weren't a lot of sights, although the Old Town in general was pretty cool, and we did see the Kaiserburg castle, with good views of the city. We headed back to Wuerzburg, and when we got back there was an open-air Santana concert. The tickets were too expensive (about $80 CDN) but we listened to a little bit from outside the fence.
Finally, All of our ERASMUS (international European exchange students) friends left at the end of July, so we had to say goodbye. This photo is of us all together in the Mensa - the student cafeteria. Most of the people we knew were Finns. All of the ERASMUS people were super fun to hang out with, so it was sad to see them go. But I'm sure they'll all come visit us in Canada... right!? I know you're reading this!
