Keeping Deer Out Of Your Yard Tips

Deer have beaten a trail through our yard year after year. They have no problem jumping over a regular fence and just keep coming. They came, three or four at a time and almost every night. In the winter they would eat the juniper bushes and table scraps in the compost pile, in the summer they would eat the garden vegetables. I have finally come up with a solution which has worked 100% in keeping the deer away and at low cost. I have placed plastic ribbon across their travel path of the deer and have not seen even one attempt to pass through the ribbons. The ribbons sag a bit over time which allows the wind to flutter the ribbons. The deer seem to be afraid of this new type of fence. I hope that they will develop new routes and I will be able to remove the ribbon in time. It is a relief not to clean up behind them. The picture below shows the fluttering ribbons that have stopped the deer in their tracks!

All summer we have been free of deer in our yard, but as winter is here, the deer have become more aggressive and are finding different routes into the yard. They either come over the neighbor’s fence or come in from the back alley along the carport. I have resorted to using my sling shot; this is only a day time option. We have been making a habit of putting all table scraps directly into the garbage can, rather than on the compost pile; now only leaves and decayed garden plants go onto the compost pile.

My conclusion is that in the summer time, it doesn’t take much to keep the deer out, but as the winter months approach a much more aggressive approach is necessary.

A well proven way to deter deer is products like Plantskydd, Bobbex, Panther PII and Blood meal. These products work by providing a "red alert" sense along with bad taste. By promoting a sense of danger, it also jam their sensors. Keep changing your way of deterring them. as they are very adaptable.
