Curing Urinary Tract Infections
Cranberry juice can help. (Note it is NOT the cranberry juice with sugar, but the kind of cranberry juice sold at health food stores)
The cranberry juice prevents the bacteria from attaching and thus helps to flush it away.

Cold Sore Tips
Cold-sores are caused by a Herpes type virus that can reside inside the body of its host. Cold-sore virus can be passed from one person to another and may reside with that person for the lifetime of its host. When ones immune system is down, for one reason or another, the virus springs into action.
My wife was starting to get symptoms on her lip, itching etc... She asked me to go to the pharmacy and get her some Abreva, a cold sore remedy, but instead said the word Aleve by mistake. When I asked the pharmacist for the product, I was informed that the product was an American product and not available in Canada under that name. She advised me that it was an anti-inflammatory type drug, and she could recommend an alternate anti-inflammatory drug in its place. I said no at this time and returned home to tell my wife the situation, as I knew her heart was set on that particular product. Once she knew it was an anti-inflammatory drug that was used to treat cold-sores, she then opted for a natural type product from the health food store. She used a product called Celadrin an anti-inflammatory, and it stopped the cold-sore in its “tracks”. Cold-sores need inflamed tissue in order to replicate. I have since used the same product with the same fine results. Celadrin is a very economical option. When one has an outbreak of cold-sores, you have to be very careful while it is in its active stage, as this is when it can be passed on to other people. Wash hands often and do not touch it with your hands. If you touch it and then touch other parts of your body you can develop cold-sores there also. Use a Q-tip to apply the Celadrin (no double dipping) and then discard it. Isn't it wonderful that these kinds of accidents can lead to something new.

Avoiding The Flu
You can help avoid the flu while shopping by wearing light gloves, that way you won’t be touching basket or buggy handles that a contaminated has used. Keep your distance from the next person in a line-up. Use Kleenex when blowing your nose and only use once before discarding into the fireplace or flushing down the toilet. Place a little Vaseline or similar product in your nose and around your nose; this will trap some of the virus and bacterial before it can enter your body.

Add On Gas Saver Tip
With the price of gas, even spilling small amounts while filling lawnmowers and other small engine devices can add up. Not only are you throwing away money you are creating a fire potential and sending noxious fumes into the air. Just about everyone has plastic gas containers. The pour spout has a poor design for pouring out fuel, especially if the container is nearly full.

To make this device you need a 45degree 1/2 inch copper elbow, (regular copper plumbing fitting, inside to outside type), a small washer and a 1/2 inch sheet metal screw. Place the elbow in the end of the spout, drill a pilot hole for the screw, place washer onto screw and screw it into place. You never have to remove it as it will store in the container along with the spout.

The state of California estimates that 17 million gallons of fuel is spilled each year while refilling outdoor power equipment

Save Gas Tip
When shopping at a shopping mall, choose a parking spot where you don't have to back up when leaving. Choose, a parking spot, where you can drive straight away; this will save you gas.

Shoe Cleaner Tip
Do you notice that leaves and dirt gets tracked into the house by all members of the family? Make a shoe cleaner and this problem can be eliminated. The next time a push broom give out because of the handle or handle attachment, don't throw it away, rather cut it into two or three lengths. With a piece of plywood, screw it together from the bottom, turn over and you have a fine shoe cleaner, No excuses now!

Power And Water Shutoff Tip
Know where the shutoffs are before an emergency happens. If you are the only one around when a major water pipe bursts apart, or because of an electrical problem a fire starts, be prepared. Instruct your spouse and children, and don't forget to instruct the baby sitter. It is also a good policy to go over all the breaker switches in the power panel and make a list of what they control. Post the list near the power breaker panel.

Car Safety Tip
Place reflective tape on the edge of car doors. At night when you open the door an approaching car will see the reflective tape. This may prevent someone from hitting you, a passenger or door. This is especially important if the vehicle is white in winter conditions.

Garden Safety Tip
If you use sticks to mark rows in your garden, don't place them straight up, but rather place them at a slight slant. If someone were to trip and fall on them, they would just fall over rather than empale.

Dog Repellent Tip
When going for a hike or walk, pack a small pump action spray bottle filled with 100% household ammonia. When bothered by a dog first try a fine spray and then adjust to fit the situation. To the dog it would get the same sensation as if it were approaching a skunk.

Get Rid Of Fruit-Flies Tip
Take a small glass, fill half full with apple cider vinegar, add 2 drop liquid dish washing soap and mix well. The flies will be attracted to the mixture and will fall in and drown.

Anti-Theft Tip
Find the largest used work boot you can find, try secondhand stores. Get a large chain and spiked dog collar. Place these items plus a large dish for a dog on the deck or by the door. Would you want to enter this house?

Enjoy The Fruit Of Your Trees Tip
Hang tin foil pans in the fruit trees and you will be able to enjoy your fruit without worrying about the birds eating it. Birds don't like the movement, banging sound and the light reflection.

Mouse Traps Tips
Before using or re-using a mouse trap, wash it toughly with water. Use rubber gloves when baiting the trap; this will keep off the human scent.

Place traps near a wall as mice like to scurry near a wall.
Cheese, peanut-butter and pieces of crisp bacon are tempting baits.
Scatter a few tiny pieces of bait around the traps to put the mice off-guard.

Repairing Window Screens Tips
To repair a window screen, first remove the screen and lay it flat. You will also be able to get at both sides. To repair a small hole in the screen use a tooth pick to straighten up the ragged edges. Apply either nail polish or clear epoxy glue. Between dryings, apply as many coats as necessary.

Standing A Ladder Tips
To place a ladder at the correct angle, stand with your toes touching the base of the ladder. While standing straight, you should be able to grasp a ladder rung at shoulder height.

Lube-A-Lock Tip
Rub graphite shavings onto a key’s jagged edge so it will slip easily into the lock tumbler. Graphite is a main ingredient in pencil lead, which is an excellent dry lubricant.

Keep Cats Out OF Your Flowers Tip
Use evergreen boughs, cut into pieces to fit the pot. When they dry, they become hard and prickly. No more will your pets dig in the dirt.

Keep Pets Away From Christmas Tree And Ornaments Tip
Set up the undecorated tree for three days before hanging the ornaments. Your cat will have its fill of the tree and not be interested in the tree or ornaments when they are hung and leave them alone.

Buying Picture Frames Tips
When you are looking for a picture frame, choose one that doesn’t have cardboard around the frame that only allows you to see the front side. The back side may be in terrible shape and the end joints may be poorly done. It is best to buy frames out of any cardboard packing.

Fleas, Cats And Dogs Tip
Rub brewers yeast into their fur; fleas hate brewers yeast. Pets get the benefit of getting B vitamins from the
brewers yeast when they clean themselves. You can buy the brewers yeast in powder form from most health
food stores.

Wrapping Parcels
When you wrap parcels use freezer paper to keep it weather proof and then wrap the entire parcel in transparent tape or plastic. This is to keep the package slippery; it wouldn't take as much of a beating when subjected to jarring in handling and conveyor belts. The fragile stickers are almost useless; this information comes from someone who works in the postal system.

Vacuuming Out Tight Areas Tips
Place a empty paper towel roll onto the end of the vacuum hose and bend of flatten it, and you will be able to reach into tight places, such as a heat register.

Haircut Tip
Need a haircut? Go to your barber on Thursday; it's their least busy day.

How to join a rug
Here is a little more information on joining two pieces of rug together. Turn the two pieces of rug too be joined up-side-down and lay them on a piece of 3/8 inch plywood. Place the two pieces to be joined together and use small nails to tack the rug to the plywood. This keeps a level surface and keeps the joint tight. Place nails about half width of small finger on each side of joint spaced apart accordingly, just out of glue reach. Use hot glue gun and work the glue slightly into the crease with a small rag. The hot glue will adhear to each side of the rug , preventing small pieces from coming loose. When glue has cooled, use pliers to remove the small nails. Turn rug over and you are done.

Fitting Louvered Blinds
A louvered blind is one of the least expensive window covering. They are easy to install, just follow directions. If you can't find the size you are looking for, be aware that you can trim a total of three inches off to make it fit, by cutting a little off each end. If your window width is 46 inches; buy a 48 inch blind and cut two inches off. If you need to cut it too make it fit; first square up the end and tightly wrap with masking tape and cut through the masking tape and blind at one time. A band saw works best, but a hacksaw with a fine tooth blade wil work as well. One screw placed into some solid wood may be all that is needed to support the blind. Then just place the center support in place and you are done.
